RESIDENTS in Dublin 8 say they have serious concerns about proposals to install mobile phone communications equipment on an apartment block.

Dublin City Council has already refused permission for an application to erect a mobile communications aerial extending to a height of 40m above ground level, located on top of a block of 28 apartments on Basin Lane.

In addition, they want to erect a four-sided advertising structure for the exhibition of advertising on digital media screens located on top of the building, as well as a 3.4m high fibreglass pint glass shape advertising structure.

In refusing permission for the mobile phone equipment, the city council said: “The proposed mobile aerial, by virtue of its location in a residential area and adjacent to existing school buildings, would be contrary to the provisions of the Dublin City Development Plan in respect of telecommunications antennae.”

CLLR GARY Staight missed some key facts from central government guidelines (Recorder Letters, November 6) indicating the need to contact schools and colleges before installation of a mast at, or near, their premises.

Redbridge College is less than 100m from the proposed installation and has indicated apprehension.

Moreover, the government attaches considerable importance to keeping the numbers of radio and telecommunications masts, and of the sites for such installations, to the minimum consistent with the efficient operations of the network, and promote sharing of facilities between operators.

Caroline has objected to a vast number of mobile phone mast applications - too many to list here. You can however, read her correspondence with the European Commission and the UK and other authorities.

She has called consistently for a moratorium on mast installations and the rolling out of new technology until there is sufficient independent evidence to guarantee their safety. This approach, in keeping with the precautionary principle, is in marked contrast to the position adopted by industry and government, which assumes they are safe until proven otherwise. In recent years, Caroline's focus has been to secure funding for research at EU level.

„In Berlin gibt es zur Zeit eine Entwicklung zu beobachten, die so auch in vielen anderen Städten abläuft. Ehemals „alternative“ Viertel werden schicker und teurer. In vielen anderen europäischen Hauptstädten wie London oder Paris ist es kaum noch möglich für Leute mit geringem Einkommen in den Innenstädten zu wohnen. Die horrenden Mieten sind nicht mehr bezahlbar. Die armen Menschen werden derweil in Vorstadtghettos abgedrängt. Berlin stellte mit seinem geringem Preisniveau und den im Vergleich niedrigen Mieten eine Ausnahme dar. Nach der Wende strömten viele Menschen in den Ostteil Berlins um hier unterschiedliche Lebensentwürfe zu verwirklichen. Genauso schnell wie sie kamen, gingen sie in bestimmten Bezirken auch wieder. Die Stadtaufwertung in den Bezirken Prenzlauer Berg und Mitte ist abgeschlossen, in Friedrichshain in vollem Gange. Durch diese Veränderungen ist vielen klar geworden, dass sich das Leben in Berlin in eine falsche Richtung verändern wird. Um diese Stadtumstrukturierung in Richtung „hübsch und sauber“ aufzuhalten und die Entwicklung hin zu etwas ganz anderem zu lenken, muss Widerstand sichtbar werden. A mobile phone company is considering alternatives for one of its masts following pressure from residents.

Last week the Advertiser reported how Vodafone was set to build an eight-metre high phone mast at the corner of Cobham Road and Orchard Close in Fetcham despite being refused planning permission earlier in September.

This was due to a mistake by Mole Valley District Council in its decision notice.

In the notice, the council omitted four critical words making it invalid and leaving the mobile phone company free to build the mast.

Now Vodafone has decided that it will look at other sites following talks with Fetcham residents.

You may be aware that the government is considering making vaccination compulsory in order to attend UK schools & to claim child benefit. The link below will take you to a Downing Street petition if you want to re cord your opposition to it. This will only take a minute.

My apologies if you've received this before or if you're not a UK national. I think this is so important that I've sent it to my whole address book.

I am concerned that such a measure does not become law not just because the issue relate to vaccination. It also involves access to the education system and the welfare state being dependent on adherence to certain behaviours and beliefs and would therefore set a deplorable precedent.

A Labour MP has recently suggested forcing all children to be vaccinated otherwise they cannot attend school and parents should not receive child benefits. Vaccinations can cause various injuries to children and also manipulate only specific parts of the immune system and not necessarily all the appropriate parts.

Residents are celebrating after a U-turn by a mobile phone company which has agreed not to site a mast outside a Halesowen pub.

A representative from 02 told a 60-strong meeting that an alternative site had been found after objections to the mast being erected on a grass verge outside the Maypole pub in Bassnage Road.

The meeting at Lutley Community Centre was told the company was now applying for the 15m tall mast to be positioned in the hedgerow at the nearby junction of Rosemary Road and Lansdowne Road.

If the application is accepted by Dudley Council 02 will plant more trees in the hedgerow to further conceal the mast.

A worried mother has voiced her fears about a planned Scarborough mobile phone mast which she claims could pose a health risk.

Mother-of-three Jennifer Adams, 45, raised her concerns after Scarborough Council gave planning permission for a 50ft Vodafone mast at the junction of Stepney Road and Stepney Drive.

Mrs Adams, of Stepney Road, fears that the transmissions given off by the mast may not only prove dangerous to her family but also students at the nearby Scarborough Sixth Form College and the residents of Combe Hay House, the George Edward Smart care home for the elderly.

All by itself, a love-struck media — which has been in the tank for Obama since the early primaries — wouldn’t be so bad. After all, any half-intelligent Epsilon-Minus Semi-Moron can see through the bias, which is often unapologetic, as in Matthews’ case. However, add to this the breaching of the wall between the government and the corporate parents of major media outlets, and you’re entering some very dangerous territory. With the government in control of the commanding heights of the American economy — the financial sector, which, like GE, has its tentacles wrapped around the communications industry — the difference between private and state-controlled media is near abolition. The boundary between media and government has always been rather blurred, at least socially, and now the connection is being cemented with plenty of cash...

More than 600 people have signed a petition calling for the removal of a mobile phone mast in Fulwell.

The post, operated by O2, stands at the corner of Newcastle Road and Thompson Road, and parents say it is too close to Fulwell Grange Kindergarten and High View Nursery.

Lisa Black, from Rydal Mount, Fulwell, has been fighting to have the mast removed since 2007.

Earlier this month, US District Judge Richard Leon ruled in the case of six Bosnians held at Guantanamo Bay. One is Lakhdar Boumediene, the lead petitioner in last summer’s Supreme Court decision restoring the rights of Guantanamo detainees to a habeas corpus hearing. So Judge Leon gave him that hearing, and Boumediene won. The judge ruled that he is not an enemy combatant. Boumediene himself was not there. He and the other Bosnians were listening at Guantanamo. When the hearing was over, the MPs switched off the monitor. Then they took Boumediene back to his isolation cell in the solitary confinement prison at Guantanamo’s Camp 6, where he remains today...
