Right Tears Itself Apart in Pinning Blame for McCain's Defeat

Oliver Burkeman, The Guardian UK: "As the implosion of the defeated Republican campaign continued yesterday, the landscape of American conservatism was dotted with signs that these were very strange times indeed. Rush Limbaugh, behemoth of rightwing radio, took to the airwaves to declare war on two enemies: Barack Obama and the Republican party. Bloggers at FreeRepublic.com, an internet hub for conservatives, announced a boycott of Fox News and John McCain's aides fell over one another to leak embarrassing details about the campaign to the press."

Why the GM - Cerberus - Chrysler Bailout is Bad for Taxpayers

By Robert Farago

Cerberus Capital, a highly secretive NYC-based vulture investment fund, wants the U.S. government and taxpayers to bailout its failed investment in Chrysler and its failing investment in GMAC. Its partner in this raid on the US Treasury is General Motors, a woefully insolvent automobile manufacturer whose CEO is paid $40k each day. Here's why a bailout for GM and/or Chrysler is a bad idea.

Pakistan says 13 killed in US missile strike

ABC News

A suspected U.S. missile targeting a Taliban commander killed 13 people near the Afghan border Friday, a sign that America’s new general for the region is not heeding Islamabad’s pleas for a halt to the strikes. There has been a surge in U.S. cross-border attacks since August, angering Pakistani officials who say the raids violate the nuclear-armed country’s sovereignty and undermine its anti-terror war in the border region...

US conducted secret ops in Pakistan, Syria

USA Today

11/09/08

The U.S. military has conducted nearly a dozen secret operations against al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups in Syria, Pakistan and other countries since 2004, The New York Times reported Sunday night. Citing anonymous U.S. officials, the Times story said the operations were authorized by a broad classified order that then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld signed and President George W. Bush approved in spring 2004...

Two-Month Decline in Jobs Reaches 524,000

Dean Baker, Truthout: "The loss of 240,000 jobs in October, coupled with a job-loss figure for September that was sharply revised upward to 284,000, brought the two-month decline to 524,000. The private sector lost 263,000 jobs in October, for a two-month total of 506,000. This is the sort of sharp decline in employment that is typical for recessions. The unemployment rate jumped to 6.5 percent in October, the highest rate since March of 1994."

Bailed Out Banks Spend Millions Lobbying

usatoday.com — Nineteen banks taking taxpayer money from the Treasury Department have spent $32.4 million lobbying the federal government during the first nine months of this year, their lobbying disclosure reports show. Combined, the Treasury is investing in the banks $159 billion from the $700 billion financial rescue package approved by Congress last month. None of the banks has indicated it plans to stop lobbying. Lobbying by the financial industry before and during the financial crisis has come under criticism from consumer groups, members of Congress and President-elect Barack Obama. "It's ridiculous that the perpetrators of this mess should be the people dictating to Congress how to get out of it," says Kathleen Day of the non-profit Center for Responsible Lending.

More phone masts added at controversial Flintshire site

Published Date: 07 November 2008

By Laura Jones

A BUILDING which already houses several phone masts can become home
to three more, a Flintshire planning committee has decided.

Mobile giants O2 applied to install three 3G antennas on top of the Mold telephone exchange, on Chester Street, Mold, in an effort to increase coverage in the area.

The building, which is already home to five antennas and two dishes, from an array of mobile telephone companies, has been the cause of heated debate among concerned local councillors for years.

Cllr Chris Bithell said: "The building is a blight on Chester Street and a blight on the area. It was marked as suitable site for redevelopment in the town centre health check. It should be demolished.

Reid looking to remove Lieberman as committee head

Palm Beach Post

11/06/08

Sen. Joe Lieberman’s affiliation with Democrats was in question after a meeting Thursday with Majority Leader Harry Reid, steamed over the Connecticut independent’s high-profile support of John McCain for president. Reid, in a sternly worded statement after the 45-minute meeting, said no official decisions have been made. But an aide to the Nevada Democrat said Reid was leaning toward removing Lieberman as chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee...

Conservatives Lost More Than An Election

by Pastor Chuck Baldwin

That Barack Obama trounced John McCain last Tuesday should have surprised no one. In fact, in this column, weeks ago, I stated emphatically that John McCain could no more beat Barack Obama than Bob Dole could beat Bill Clinton. He didn't. (Hence a vote for John McCain was a "wasted" vote, was it not?) I also predicted that Obama would win with an electoral landslide. He did. The real story, however, is not how Barack Obama defeated John McCain. The real story is how John McCain defeated America's conservatives........

PHONE MAST PROPOSED CLOSE TO SCHOOL

Published Date: 06 November 2008

AN ARBROATH Herald reader is concerned about a Vodafone proposal to install a mobile 'phone mast just yards from Timmergreens Primary School.

Our informant said: "I thought perhaps the paper might be interested in making the parents of children who attend Timmergreen primary school aware that Vodafone have applied for planning permission to erect a mobile phone mast overlooking the school playground.

"Under planning permission regulations I understand they only have to notify the school as being one of the buildings adjacent, but I doubt the school is under any obligation to notify parents of this proposal."
