Residents celebrate victory over mast

Friday, November 28, 2008, 12:00

A "TRIUMPH" is being celebrated by Uckfield residents who have campaigned against a mobile phone mast for two years.

The group of householders learned on Monday that a decision to grant planning permission for a phone mast from Orange was overturned by the High Court.

The original application for the 10m mast at the roundabout off Mallard Drive and the High Street was turned down by planners from Wealden District Council.

But the group of six residents were prompted to take action when they heard that an appeal from Orange had been granted by the planning inspectorate. Between them they paid for a solicitor to take the case to the High Court.

A consent order from the court stated that "investigation at the planning appeal into alternative sites for the proposed mast was not carried out adequately".

It added: "Therefore the decision should not be allowed to stand."

Campaigner Nick Bridgen of Swallow Court said the mast would have been situated 25m to 30m away from his home if given the go-ahead.

Mr Bridgen said: "It was just an inappropriate place to put a mast.

"They just hadn't looked at the alternative sites."

Other members of the group also live near the proposed site, and some reside in the High Street. Members also had concerns about the close proximity of the mast to Uckfield schools.

Mum's phone mast victory

Published Date: 28 November 2008

RESIDENTS are celebrating after plans to put up a mobile phone mast near their houses were thrown out by planning chiefs.

Mobile phone giant Vodafone had submitted a planning application to put up a mast on land off Yoden Way, in Peterlee, not far from houses in Duddon Close.

But planning chiefs on District of Easington's development control and regulatory panel have refused the plans due to its close proximity to homes and because of the visual impact on the environment.

Vicky Huntington, who lives in Duddon Close, had mounted a one-woman campaign, collecting 31 signatures from residents against the siting of the mast.

Pupils fight Six Bells mast plan

8:48am Friday 28th November 2008

By Alex Cinus

MORE than 200 people braved heavy rainfall in Six Bells yesterday to protest against a proposed mobile phone mast, which will be located 70 metres from a nearby primary school.

Pupils at Bryngwyn Primary School, their parents and local residents, marched from the school on Bryngwyn Road to the site of the proposed mast on Cwm Farm Road.

The protesters holding handmade placards urged mobile phone company Vodafone to reconsider their plans to build the mast so close to the school and complained about a lack of consultation from the company.

Residents protest over mobile mast

Thursday, 27 November 2008

RESIDENTS in Dublin 8 say they have serious concerns about proposals to install mobile phone communications equipment on an apartment block.

Dublin City Council has already refused permission for an application to erect a mobile communications aerial extending to a height of 40m above ground level, located on top of a block of 28 apartments on Basin Lane.

In addition, they want to erect a four-sided advertising structure for the exhibition of advertising on digital media screens located on top of the building, as well as a 3.4m high fibreglass pint glass shape advertising structure.

In refusing permission for the mobile phone equipment, the city council said: “The proposed mobile aerial, by virtue of its location in a residential area and adjacent to existing school buildings, would be contrary to the provisions of the Dublin City Development Plan in respect of telecommunications antennae.”

Facts missing on mobile masts

27 November 2008

CLLR GARY Staight missed some key facts from central government guidelines (Recorder Letters, November 6) indicating the need to contact schools and colleges before installation of a mast at, or near, their premises.

Redbridge College is less than 100m from the proposed installation and has indicated apprehension.

Moreover, the government attaches considerable importance to keeping the numbers of radio and telecommunications masts, and of the sites for such installations, to the minimum consistent with the efficient operations of the network, and promote sharing of facilities between operators.

Mobile company turnaround over Fetcham mast

Thursday, November 27, 2008, 07:00

A mobile phone company is considering alternatives for one of its masts following pressure from residents.

Last week the Advertiser reported how Vodafone was set to build an eight-metre high phone mast at the corner of Cobham Road and Orchard Close in Fetcham despite being refused planning permission earlier in September.

This was due to a mistake by Mole Valley District Council in its decision notice.

In the notice, the council omitted four critical words making it invalid and leaving the mobile phone company free to build the mast.

Now Vodafone has decided that it will look at other sites following talks with Fetcham residents.
