Community’s fears fail to block mast

Dec 11 2008 by Andrew Pugh, Neath Guardian

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a powerful mobile phone mast near two schools have been given the green light – despite fears children will be blasted by cancerous radiation.

The new 3G mast will be placed 200 metres from Crynallt Junior and Infant schools in Cimla and 16 metres from an existing mobile phone mast.

The latter was rejected by the planning department five years ago following an 800-name petition, but it went ahead in August 2003 after the Assembly overturned the decision on appeal.

Barsey phone mast continues to cause buzzing misery

The phone mast off Smithy Lane in Bardsey back in 2003. Numerous mobile phone comapnies have attempted to erect masts around the village.

Published Date: 10 December 2008

BARDSEY residents continue to be blighted by a continuous buzzing noise they claim is coming from a mobile phone mast situated near their homes.

Orange was refused permission by Leeds City Council in the summer to keep its 15m mast on land at Sarsdale Ridge following hundreds of objections from Bardsey home owners.

But despite this refusal, the communications company has now chosen to use temporary planning laws to keep the mast up and it's appealed to The Government Planning Inspectorate in Bristol.

MP speaks out against mobile phone mast

Monday, December 08, 2008, 13:01

An MP has added his voice to those objecting to plans for a mobile phone mast near schools.

Matthew Taylor, MP for Truro, has written to the Government planning inspector who will decide whether to allow mobile phone giant Vodafone to plant the 40ft pole on a verge outside Truro Rugby Club in St Clement's Hill.

As previously reported, angry neighbours and councillors fear the effects of radiation from the equipment due to the site's proximity to Tregolls Primary School, Penair School, a Cornwall County Council children's centre and private nursery, as well as dozens of homes.

Vodafone has appealed to the Government against Carrick District Council's refusal of permission for the mast.

The Bristol-based planning inspector will decide the matter in the new year, after hearing from both parties, other objectors and supporters and visiting the site personally. The land is privately-owned.

Mr Taylor said: "Local residents are opposed to the proposed site of this mast so close to children's facilities.

"I have pressed the Planning Inspectorate to support the council in their decision to refuse planning permission.

Parents' fears of Orange plan for phone mast near two Bristol schools

Sunday, December 07, 2008, 18:13

Parents reacted with disbelief that telecommunications giant Orange applied to put up a phone mast in Bristol without consulting two nearby schools.

Orange claimed there were no schools within 250m of the proposed site of the 11.8m-high mast in Redland in its planning application to Bristol City Council.

But both Bristol Steiner School and Torwood House Junior School are within 150m of it.

Staff and parents of children at the schools say they were not informed of the proposal and believe the mast could affect pupils' health.

Orange wants to put a lamppost phone mast on the corner of Redland Hill and Durdham Park to improve its network coverage in the Clifton area following the loss of its mast on the Natwest building in Whiteladies Road.

Joel Moreland's six-year-old son Zach goes to Bristol Steiner School, which has 120 pupils aged six to 16 in Redland Hill. He also has a daughter at the school's kindergarten in Cotham.

Opposes changing cell tower ordinance

Dear Editor,

posted 12/07/2008

The name of the game is "Beggar Thy Neighbor." You sign a lucrative contract to put a cell tower on your land and let the people living around you suffer the consequences: The health effects from around the clock electromagnetic radiation, loss of property value, loss of the enjoyment of your land and the sight of the ugly tower itself.

Thousands of people in N. America are in this situation, stuck in a house they can't sell, often with radiation caused sickness. If you're caught in this trap do you think you'll get a property tax reduction or compensation from the cell phone company? Fat chance.
