Fury as Vodafone's Whitley phone mast gets green light

Mar 13 2009 by Les Reid, Coventry Telegraph

MOBILE phone giant Vodafone has won planning permission to keep a 30m high mast in Coventry’s green belt, despite objections from 500 residents.

Cheylesmore families fear children using a path to get to and from school could be exposed to radiation from the mast at Jaguar’s Whitley site.

The path was recently moved nearer to the mast as part of preparations for a business park at the site.

The mast received temporary planning permission for three years in 2005. Vodafone was yesterday back at the city council’s planning committee seeking consent for a further three years.

But Conservative councillor Kevin Foster, representing families in his Cheylesmore ward, said a more suitable brownfield site should be found more quickly as the business park development was making good progress.

Anger over 46ft mobile mast

Published Date: 13 March 2009

By Esther Hutcheson

VODAFONE has been given the green light to install a phone mast more than 14m (46ft) high in Bo'ness that Falkirk Council rejected last year.

A planning appeal decision went the way of the telecoms giant despite the council and residents voicing concerns about it being an eyesore.

The mast will be sited on a grass verge next to the Drum Road/Grahamsdyke Road junction.

Vodafone say the new mast will improve coverage for customers using the mobile internet.

Inquiry reporter Michael Thomson of the directorate for planning and environmental appeals, appointed by Scottish Ministers, granted planning permission for the 14.2m (46.5ft) mast and base cabinet.

He concluded the site, which he personally visited, was probably the "optimum location in the area" and that nearby trees would help to screen the monopole.

Row grows over Lyme mast

11:11am Thursday 12th March 2009

By Adrianne Maslen

RESIDENTS living near the site for a proposed new phone mast are fearful of the health risks involved and the blight it could have on the landscape.

Mobile phone company Telefónica O2 wants to put a radio base station on land surrounding St Georges House in Lyme Regis Industrial Estate.

The mast would be 20 metres high (66 feet) with associated equipment on the ground.

It would be located on a piece of derelict land owned by West Dorset District Council, which would also determine the mobile phone company’s planning application. A council spokeswoman said: “We would like to stress the issue of ownership has nothing to do with the determination of the application.”

Cell phone health concerns continue to spread

March 10, 2009 by Mi Kai Lee

A court in France has ordered the dismantling of a cell phone mast based on the ‘precautionary principle’ because there is insufficient proof that cell phones are harmless. The suit was initiated by residents in the vicinity of the tower against cell phone company Bouygues Telecom. Following the judgements of the Nanterre TGI (District Court) and the Versailles Appeal Court Bouygues Telecom began dismantling its phone mast in the early morning of March 6, 2009.

Council: Orange alternative mast survey could be weeks

7:57pm Tuesday 10th March 2009

By James Nadal

COUNCIL officials have been told they face a further wait to find out if mobile phone giant Orange has found an alternative site for the controversial Foxes Piece mast.

In October 2008 the communications company was granted permission to build an antenna at the junction of Little Marlow Road and Foxes Piece - close to the primary school - after Wycombe District Council failed to object to the plan in time.

Residents, particularly concerned over possible health hazards for schoolchildren, wrote to council to object in their hundreds.
