Why Take The Risk?

Written by Louise Clarke

A group of La Marina residents have been left fearing for their health after a large mobile phone mast was erected on a neighbour’s house. Parque Manzanares in La Marina is a quiet, residential area. Three weeks ago, men in unmarked vans arrived at a house on the Parque and started to unload electrical equipment. Neighbours Jane and Arthur Arnold assumed that it was a TV satellite company erecting a satellite dish. However when Arthur (who worked for BT for many years) saw what equipment was being unloaded, he knew that it wasn’t for any satellite dish.

Mast legislation 'an abuse of law'

Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 14:11

A PHONE company is to erect a mast less than 15 yards from the front door of a man whose doctors have warned him to avoid mobiles.

Reg Hill, who lives directly opposite the planned site of a Vodafone mast in Stoke, fears the radio waves will affect him, his wife Denise and their two children. Mr Hill's son Graham died of a brain tumour in October 2000. Mr Hill says that specialists at Derriford warned him to avoid mobile phones.

"It's really getting me down," Mr Hill said. "I just can't let it happen but I don't know what to do now."

Angry Stoke residents have launched a campaign to stop Vodafone putting up the mast at the corner of Masterman Road and Keppel Place.

With the support of their local Conservative councillor, they are campaigning to change Government policy, which forces councils to give planning permission automatically for masts under 15 metres tall.

Phone mast fears for Darras Hall First School

Jun 18 2009 by Adam Jupp, The Journal

PARENTS at a North East first school fear council blunders will lead to a mobile phone mast being built yards from where their children study.

Telecommunications giant Telefonica O2 applied to build the 12.5m structure outside Darras Hall First School, in Ponteland, Northumberland, but the move was met by a wave of fierce objections.

Northumberland County Council’s West Area planning committee held a meeting to discuss the proposal, at which the decision was taken to reject it.

But now it has emerged the refusal is not valid because it did not take place within 56 days of the initial application being received.

Council blunder allows phone mast

A mobile phone mast could be erected near a Northumberland school following a blunder by the county council.

The authority refused consent for the mast, just yards from Darras Hall First School, but failed to notify Telefonica O2 within the required 56 days.

As a result the 41ft (12.5m) mast could now be installed by default.

The council said there was an oversight in the interpretation of regulations, and that discussions were ongoing to try to agree an alternative site.

Campaigners angry over mobile phone mast

CAMPAIGNERS against plans for a huge phone mast next to their houses have reacted angrily after planners issued no objections to the plans.

The proposal for the 47ft Vodafone phone mast next to the Shell petrol station in New Road, Uttoxeter, now looks set to go ahead after East Staffordshire Borough Council gave the proposals its approval.

Parents will get public hearings before cell tower deals

By ADAM EMERSON | The Tampa Tribune

Published: June 12, 2009

Hillsborough County will now require a public hearing before cell phone towers go up near schools.

TAMPA - Families demanding to be heard before schools arrange to place cell towers on their campuses now will have a voice.

Hillsborough County commissioners Thursday night changed their land-use codes to force tighter restrictions on schools pursuing cell tower leases. Now a public hearing is required before the towers can go up.

Mobile mast could be taken down

SAM WILLIAMS

12 June 2009 17:04

A giant mobile phone mast could be torn down because it is a blot on the landscape.

The 30-metre mast was erected on land off Taverham Lane, Costessey, in April last year by telecoms firm T Mobile to replace a nearby mast which was taken down to make way for new homes.

Under a Town and Country Planning Order, the structure was initially allowed without planning permission for a six-month period while a new mast site was found, but after more than a year T Mobile chiefs are now seeking permission to retain the mast for a further year while a permanent replacement is built.

But the proposal, set to go before South Norfolk Council's North West Area Planning Committee on Monday, is being recommended for refusal on grounds that it would detract from the character of the area and would require new road access which could pose a hazard.
