Residents Say Phone Mast Plan Not for Us

Posted on: Saturday, 4 October 2008, 03:00 CDT

By Andy Walker

CONCERNED residents have accused a mobile phone company of a ?major lack of communication and consultation? over plans to install an 18 metre mast.

Telecommunications company Vodafone wants to erect the mast on farmland close to houses in Sandy Bank, Northallerton, to improve coverage for customers.

Residents have expressed concerns about the proposed siting of themast and its proximity to houses.

Wanted: persons who can translate from Dutch to English and to French

The Dutch Knowledge Platform Safe Mobile Network (KPSMN) has a very interesting website on how a safer mobile network can be created
( http://www.kennisplatformveiligmobielnetwerk.info/ ). They argue that a few relatively simple technical adjustments to mobile networks (namely higher placed antennas which emit at lower power) can significantly lower ambient radiation levels, without this hindering the functioning of mobile networks (like the system that is already applied in Salzburg).

The European Parliament and other policy makers around the world have become concerned about the issue of EMF. The information on the website of the KPSMN could provide them with very useful and especially useable information that shows that it is in fact fairly easy to achieve lower radiation levels. It is very concrete information that can be easily translated into policy measures.

The problem is however that the website is only available in Dutch at the moment. So it would be very, very valuable if the website could be translated to English and/or French (and perhaps other languages), preferably by native speakers of these languages, or otherwise people who master these languages very well.

People willing to do this can send an email to info[at]kennisplatformveiligmobielnetwerk.info (please put Beperk.de.straling[at]gmail.com in cc)

New masts get a bad reception

Friday, October 03, 2008, 07:00

THEY'VE been linked to everything from suicides in Bridgend to cancer in Bristol, and every time a phone company wants to install a mast near houses, schools and public places there's outcry.

The most recent furore has surrounded a mast installed by Vodafone in Townhill, despite Swansea Council planners voting to reject the company's application.

A delay of 24 hours in telling the company of the council's decision meant the installation could go ahead anyway.

Around 200 local people had signed a petition to stop the mast being built in the middle of a residential area. They were concerned about their and their children's health.

Whitworth mobile phone mast plan attacked

2:50pm Thursday 2nd October 2008

By Peter Magill

PROTESTERS have hit out at plans for a mobile phone mast overlooking picturesque Cown Reservoir.

Telecoms giant Orange are making a third bid for a 15-metre high mast locally, on land off High Barn Lane, Whitworth.

Earlier this year another application, for similar equipment on land near Whitworth Water Ski, was turned down by Rossendale planners on the grounds that it would spoil the view in the green belt.

And another bid, also near Cowm Reservoir, in woodland, was turned down because of similar countryside concerns.

TOWERING rage

Auckland residents are angry over phone antennae springing up.

Joseph Barratt reports

It's not good at all. I can't believe they put it there,' says Maria Madill as her two children run excitedly across the front lawn, seemingly oblivious to the new antenna on the building across the road.

`It's not so much the visual impact as what the dangers could be,' says Mrs Madill. `We've done some research and there is all sorts of information that points to it not being good for people's health.'
