Bitte schreiben Sie an die EU-Kommissaren Stavros Dimas und Peter Mandelson und fordern Sie ein sofortiges europaweites Einfuhrverbot. Man muss nicht erst eine Studie in Auftrag geben um zu wissen, dass die Robbenjagd grausam ist. 42% der Tiere werden lebend gehäutet.

Authorities in Ottawa announced last week a sharp reduction in the numbers of pups that hunters will be allowed to kill this spring in a first official acknowledgment of the impact the melting ice is having on the seal population. Conservationists, however, are demanding that the harvest be cancelled. The animals are kept in huge battery cages similar to the ones for laying hens. While battery cages for hens are already illegal in some European countries, so far cages for rabbits are not even questioned.

With fewer sharks to devour them, skates and rays have increased sharply along the East Coast and they are gobbling up shellfish, particularly bay scallops, researchers report in Friday's issue of the journal Science.
