Erfüllungsgehilfe von Konzerninteressen - Mögliche Korruption der Politik durch Kohle- und Atomkonzerne

Fell kritisiert Gabriel wegen Kohlepolitik

Treasury Outlines Toothless Hedge Fund Rules

Kevin G. Hall reports for McClatchy Newspapers, "With an eye toward shoring up shaky financial markets, Treasury Department officials unveiled a plan Tuesday to provide greater transparency and management of risk in hedge funds. However, the Bush administration's 'best practices' proposal is voluntary, and less than two dozen of the more than 8,000 registered hedge funds signed onto the plan." In related news, Jenny Anderson reports for The New York Times, "Hedge fund managers, those masters of a secretive, sometimes volatile financial universe, are making money on a scale that once seemed unimaginable, even in Wall Street's rarefied realms. One manager, John Paulson, made $3.7 billion last year."

Big Tax Breaks for Businesses in Housing Bill

Stephen Labaton and David M. Herszenhorn report for The New York Times, "The Senate proclaimed a fierce bipartisan resolve two weeks ago to help American homeowners in danger of foreclosure. But while a bill that senators approved last week would take modest steps toward that goal, it would also provide billions of dollars in tax breaks - for automakers, airlines, alternative energy producers and other struggling industries, as well as home builders."

GM Failures Continue

ISIS Press Release 16/04/08

The GM industry has been ailing at least as far back as
2005, but kept alive by an aggressive campaign of disinformation. GM Watch ( http://www.gmwatch.org ) brings you the latest GM failures 2007-2008

GM cotton debacle in India

GM cotton has been failing in India and elsewhere for years [1] (Broken Promises, SiS 22), escalating the epidemic of farmers’ suicides [2] (Stem Farmers’ Suicides with Organic Farming, SiS 32). Unfortunately, the Indian government has allowed the commercial planting to continue with drastic consequences.

BT cotton failed in Vidarbha

A study on the introduction of Bt cotton in India’s cotton- growing belt of Vidarbha revealed that it failed in the region. Suman Sahai, director of Gene Campaign, which conducted the study, said that despite knowing that Bt cotton would not work in rainfed areas, the state government introduced it. The high input costs of Bt cotton increased indebtedness, and the study showed that 70 per cent of small farmers lost their landholdings as collateral for loans that they could never repay.

The study also showed that farmers who adopted Bt cotton had a net lower income than non-Bt cotton farmers. Seed dealers had promised farmers that they would get 12–15 quintals per acre when the actual yields were 3–5 quintals [3]

In February 2007, five districts of Vidarbha where Bt cotton was widely adopted reported nearly 1 500 farmers committing suicide in the previous 20 months [4].

More livestock deaths from grazing Bt cotton

With reports of deaths of livestock that had grazed on Bt cotton in 2006 still fresh [5] (Mass Deaths in Sheep Grazing on Bt Cotton, SiS 30), more deaths and illnesses in sheep and goats were seen in the early months of 2007. Symptoms included bloating of the stomach, black patches on the intestines, lung congestion, green and red mucus flow from nostrils, reddish urine, sneezing, and skin allergies. Women cotton pickers also reported skin allergies [6], another problem with Bt cotton reported widely in 2006 [7] (More Illnesses Linked to Bt Crops, SiS 30).

Fascism is creepy

Common Dreams
by Stacey Warde

04/15/08

For nearly eight years, I’ve tried without success to describe the radical shift that has taken place in our government. Each time I’ve approached the task, I’ve had to throw up my hands in frustration because the only model that makes sense to me is the one called fascism. But that word doesn’t go over too well in polite conversation. It evokes horrors too horrible to imagine. The reality, however, is that fascism isn’t just about jackbooted thugs and state-sponsored industry built on slavery and death to one’s enemies. The danger of fascism is its seemingly benign mechanisms of control - fear, conformity, the state’s intermingling with religion and corporate enterprise - for keeping a populace in check, for making its people feel content with the way things are and never quick to protest occasional violations of human rights and infringements on their or another’s liberties...

Blood Levels of Mercury Are Related to Diagnosis of Autism: A Reanalysis of an Important Data Set

Mercury: a common cause of chronic conditions
http://www.flcv.com/leakyghg.html

Informant: Dorothee Krien

--------

Blood Levels of Mercury Are Related to Diagnosis of Autism

Dear Dorothee: Thank you for this email and the other two I received this morning. These are important studies and as you know, the issue re thimerosol is finally gaining more attention.

The same is true for virtually any medication or even supplements. Vitamins A, B, C, E and ohers are reported as becoming toxic -- intolerances are occuring even with relatively small doses.

One prescription medication after another is causing serious adverse effects -- doesn't seem to matter whether the drug is for depression, bi-polar, etc., arthritis, cholesterol-lowering or even an antibiotic. I just dealt with serious changes in Bud re pneumonia when he developed hallucinations after he began taking Doxycycline. Magnetic field readings averaged 6.5 mg in his bedroom -- I do not know electric field measurement. He has no appliances, telephone equipment, waterpipes or improper wiring close to the head of his bed although the gas meter's electric field may still be too close to his bed. I use the gaussmeter as "an investigative tool" only. No electric or telephone equipment should be closer to one's bed than a minimum of 3 ft., regardless of the magnetic field measurement in or on one's bed..

These are all reasons why the sort of studies Olle and his colleagues are willing to conduct if and when funding comes their way, are so vital.

As with most of today's studies, almost no "focused attention" is directed toward evaluating electric and telephone bed exposures. The infant/toddler who develops autism may have a monitor in or under their crib. The child may be sleeping close to an electric meter or gas meter or other chronic, prolonged EMF/EMR source. The child may have an "EMF friendly bedroom" but may spend most of the night in bed with his or her parents.

As with the overall EMF issue, studies and claims re the amount of thimerosol in vaccines continue to be ambiguous and/or largely inconclusive in conjunction with proving causality.

We know that EMF/EMR appears to exacerbate the function of metals in humans and animals in a uniquely harmful way. In our family, my guinea pig studies, as well as some of my research, that applies whether natural, injected or consumed.

You may recall that the veterinarian/pathologist at the University of Minnesota was looking for some sort of metal overload in my guinea pig, Kelley -- the one who developed Reactive Renal Amyloidosis (considered to be "rare") after about 2-1/2 years living in our basement where milligauss readings ranged between 3.5 mg and 4.5 mg on average. There is a sewer pipe in the floor right under the desk that held the cage. I do not know the corresponding electric field reading.

None of what I write means we should be any less concerned about the mercury itself, it is just that I believe the numbers of autism-spectrum disorders would be significantly higher if the thimeosol is the only culprit. I commend you and ohers for your efforts to bring attention to the dangers of mercury but believe we must also emphasize the urgent need to study the probable exacerbated effects of thimerosol injection in animals under exposures simulating chronic, close nighttime exposures versus animals and/or cells not similarly exposed.

I hope you are enjoying spring -- best wishes and take care - Joanne

Slouching Towards Balkanization

By Pepe Escobar

Happy Days are here again. It's as if the George W Bush years in Afghanistan had never left, with Washington still wallowing in an intelligence-free environment. A surge is coming to town - just like the one General David Petraeus engineered in Iraq.

EPA Missing in Action

Margaret Kriz reports for The National Journal, "The Environmental Protection Agency is failing to live up to its name these days, its legions of critics agree. At a time when the nation's top environmental regulators face increasingly complex pollution problems, President Bush is pushing for dramatic cuts in EPA's budget, his administration's strained, pro-industry interpretations of environmental laws have repeatedly been laughed out of court, and the White House is widely perceived to be running roughshod over agency scientists and lawyers."

REAL ID proves federal government is not the all powerful Oz

The Price of Liberty
by Robert Greenslade

04/14/08

With the threat of their citizens not being able to board an airplane or enter a federal building, New Hampshire, Maine, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Washington, and Montana have enacted laws that basically tell the federal government to pound sand because we will never comply with the Real ID requirement. Other States are also contemplating noncompliance. For those Americans who still have the ability to think and reason, this legislation and the defiance by the States should trigger some questions...

Petraeus sets up Iran

CounterPunch
by Paul Craig Roberts

04/14/08

Last week’s congressional testimony by Gen. David Petraeus and Green Zone administrator Ryan Crocker set the propaganda stage for a Bush regime attack on Iran….. According to the neocon propaganda, the “special groups” (have you ever heard of them before?) are breakaway elements of al Sadr’s militia.Nonsensical on its face, the Petraeus/Crocker testimony is just another ploy in the macabre theatre of lies that the Bush regime has told in order to justify its wars of naked aggression against Muslims...

Torture: Beyond the pale

Seattly Post-Intelligencer
by staff

04/14/08

The image of CIA officers demonstrating and detailing torture techniques considered for use during detainee interrogations in the White House is one most Americans could probably never conceive. And yet, ABC News reported last week that senior Bush administration officials were privy to such presentations in the Situation Room as they discussed and approved the brutal treatment (such as waterboarding) of terror suspects. They also approved combining various techniques to be used on a suspect...

On Generals testifying before Congress

Fred On Everything
by Fred Reed

04/14/08

Whenever I see that some dismal general will testify to Congress regarding the war against Iraq, I imagine the first paragraph of his Power Point presentation:“All metrics show a downsurge in the violence in Iraq, and a continuing improvement in indicators of the production of a better life. Next slide. The Iranians are aiding the enemies of America, and must be bombed. This is a recording.”

What solemn, fraudulent, emetic mummery. Congressmen will—do—ask the General puffball questions, after which they will do whatever the President tells them to do. I can make no criticism of this. It is the American way. Still, may I suggest a few questions I would like to see the General, any general, asked?

Did the fed cause the housing bubble?

Ludwig von Mises Institute
by Robert P. Murphy

04/14/08

One of the few positive developments from the housing bubble is that many mainstream economists have recognized the pernicious role played by the Federal Reserve. Indeed, some analysts on CNBC have discussed the outright abolition of the Fed. The case against the Fed is straightforward: In an attempt to jumpstart the economy out of recession, Greenspan slashed the federal funds target from 6.5% in January 2001 down to a ridiculous 1% by June 2003...

Money for Iraq war: What else could be done with it?

At the low end of estimates of the cost of the war - $120 billion a year - the money would cover the projected cost of Clinton's universal health care plan. It could pay for Obama's less inclusive health care plan and his proposal to bail out homeowners with troubled mortgages.

Mercenaries Training US Local Police Officers

There are many police and law enforcement officials who are concerned with the growing trend of using military-trained mercenaries to train and work with local police officers in the United States, but there are many who believe the events of September 11, 2001 dictate the need for a new paradigm.

Financial Collapse Will End The Occupation

And it won't be "A time of our choosing"

The Iraq War signals the end of US interventionism for at least a generation; maybe longer. The ideological foundation for the war (preemption/regime change) has been exposed as a baseless justification for unprovoked aggression. Someone will have to be held accountable.

Only A Miracle Can Save America Now

by Pastor Chuck Baldwin

America is currently facing the most serious threat to its national independence and sovereignty since the War of 1812. The forces of globalism have declared an all-out war against our country's independence. Illegal immigration, the NAFTA superhighway, the North American Community, a regional currency called the Amero, and "free trade" deals are just a few of the weapons in their arsenal. And John McCain will use every bit of his power as President to facilitate all of this chicanery. And, because McCain is a Republican, conservatives and Christians will sit back and let it happen without even the slightest whimper of resistance. If Obama or Clinton were sitting in the Oval Office, however, massive numbers of conservatives and Christians would rise in protest over every inch of ground ceded to these nefarious nabobs. So, tell me, who is the greater evil? I say it is John McCain.......
