LINKE sagt JA zur Europäischen Union, aber NEIN zum Reformvertrag

Zur heutigen Unterzeichnung des EU-Reformvertrages durch die Staats- und Regierungschefs erklärt Lothar Bisky, Vorsitzender der Partei DIE LINKE und Vorsitzender der Partei der Europäischen Linken:

Heute unterzeichnen in Lissabon die Staats- und Regierungschefs der EU-Mitgliedstaaten den Reformvertrag. Sollte er von allen Ländern ratifiziert werden, tritt er in Kraft und wird als Vertrag von Lissabon in die Annalen der Europäischen Union eingehen. Wir sagen NEIN zum Reformvertrag, denn es ist der Reformvertrag der Staats- und Regierungschefs. Um die EU zu stabilisieren, bedarf es mehr als Kosmetik. Die LINKE will kein Europa der Regierenden. Wir wollen ein Europa, in dem Bürgerinnen und Bürger selbstbestimmt leben können. Der neue Vertrag ist nicht geeignet, die Krise der EU zu lösen. Denn die eigentliche Krise der EU und damit der europäischen Integration besteht darin, dass die gegenwärtige und – mit diesem Vertrag – auch die zukünftige Grundausrichtung der EU-Politik weder den Interessen der Bürgerinnen und Bürger noch den Herausforderungen der Globalisierung entspricht. Eine reale Zukunftsfähigkeit für die Europäische Union wird nicht begründet – die markantesten Defizite bisheriger Europapolitik bleiben bestehen. So sollen mit dem Vertrag die Mitgliedstaaten auf den schrittweisen Ausbau ihrer militärischen Kapazitäten verpflichtet werden. Das heißt im Klartext: Aufrüstung! Jeder weiß, das kostet viel Geld, sehr viel Geld. Und Geld, das für Rüstung ausgegeben wird, steht weder für Bildung noch für soziale oder ökologische Zwecke zur Verfügung. Und es fehlt auch zur zivilen Konfliktbewältigung. Die Militarisierung der EU erhält mit diesem Vertrag ihre rechtlichen Grundlagen. Sie ist folglich nicht nur gegen das friedliche Europa, sondern auch gegen das soziale und demokratische Europa gerichtet und steht damit im krassen Gegensatz zu den Interessen der Unionsbürgerinnen und Unionsbürger, die ein friedliches, soziales und demokratisches Europa wollen. Ein friedliches, soziales und demokratisches Europa ist auch Ziel der Politik meiner Partei und der Partei der Europäischen Linken. Wir sagen JA zur europäischen Integration und zur Europäischen Union. Aber wir sagen NEIN zur Militarisierung der EU, zu ihrer neoliberalen Grundausrichtung und zur Aushöhlung der demokratischen Rechte. Wir wollen eine Europäische Union, die eine Politik im Interesse ihrer Bürgerinnen und Bürger macht. Das aber ist nur möglich, wenn die Bürgerinnen und Bürger die EU und Europa selbst gestalten und über die Entwicklungsrichtung entscheiden. Deshalb fordert DIE LINKE, dass grundlegende Entscheidungen in der Europapolitik durch die Bürgerinnen und Bürger zu legitimieren sind. Wie Sie wissen ist aber - mit Ausnahme Irlands - in keinem weiteren EU-Mitgliedstaat ein Referendum vorgesehen. Das ist ein unhaltbarer Zustand! Deshalb hat die Partei der Europäischen Linken eine Unterschriftenkampagne beschlossen, mit der in allen EU-Mitgliedsländern Unterschriften für Referenden zum EU-Reformvertrag gesammelt werden. Insgesamt sind mindestens 1 Million Unterschriften von Unionsbürgerinnen und Unionsbürgern für eine Bürgerinitiative notwendig. Unter dem Motto "Europa mitbestimmen! Referendum jetzt!" hat DIE LINKE heute mit ihrer Unterschriftensammlung für die Durchführung einer Volksabstimmung in Deutschland begonnen.

For Republicans, the beauty of Iran as a campaign issue was that it involved a regime whose minions had regularly chanted ‘death to America’ for decades, a regime that is actively hostile to the U.S. ally Israel, that had at least at some point been involved in international terrorism, and that — above all — was suspected of aggressively pursuing a nuclear weapons program. Americans had despised the Shiite clerical regime ever since Khomeini’s regime took U.S. embassy personnel hostage, and ayatollahs with nukes was a national nightmare. Indeed, the ongoing threat of a nuclear-armed Iran had the potential for bolstering those Americans motivated by issues of national security, thereby rescuing the politically sinking Republicans. Americans are not now going to fall in love with Iran, and suspicions may linger about Tehran’s civilian nuclear energy research program. But voters are unlikely to take very seriously the idea that a poor, weak country of 70 million — one lacking much of an air force and with no weapons of mass destruction — is the most important problem that the United States faces.
