David Bacon writes for Truthout: "Merry Christmas! You're fired. This could be the scenario for over eight million workers this coming holiday season, if a new regulation announced by the Bush administration goes into effect. Campact-News 20/07 Dienstag, 18. September 2007 - Es schreibt: Christoph Bautz (christoph @campact.de)

Weltkindertag: „Keine Kinder zweiter Klasse“

Pressemitteilung vom 18.09.2007

A way for America to assert its moral strength

Christian Science Monitor
by Alex Little

09/18/07

In The Art of War, Sun Tzu, the noted Chinese war strategist, advises military leaders to ‘embrace unexpected tactics.’ Although more than two thousand years old, this advice remains sound. Today, as policymakers struggle to repair America’s reputation abroad, they could borrow a page from Sun Tzu’s book: The United States should join the International Criminal Court (ICC). To date, more than 100 nations have joined the ICC, which is the world’s first permanent international criminal tribunal. It serves as a court of last resort to prosecute genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity when national authorities are unable or unwilling to do so...

What’s the point?

WHAT is the point of an elected council if the only people they represent are members of the Government?

I refer to the shocking way in which Herefordshire Council recently accepted T-Mobile's application for a mobile phone mast in the centre of Colwall in spite of considerable opposition.

In a very small locality well over 200 people opposed the mast by signing a petition or sending letters of protest. Many of these individuals represent larger community groups, including children. This was clearly a most unpopular proposal.

September in Würzburg.

What They're Saying in Anbar Province

Hold Bush/Cheney Accountable on Constitution Day

Stephen Rohde and Peter Thottam write for Truthout, "As we celebrate Constitution Day, we need to mourn how far our country will have strayed from its founding principles if the people themselves fail to take action to remove from office leaders who have so arrogantly abused their powers, failed to fulfill their duty to 'take care that the laws be faithfully executed,' and have willfully violated their oath to 'preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.'"

Funding Cuts Could End Iraq Occupation

Jason Leopold reports for Truthout, "Next week, Congress is expected to take up a $50 billion emergency supplemental bill to continue funding the so-called 'surge' in Iraq and military operations in Afghanistan ... [the Congressional Research Service recommends] Democrats use 'the power of the purse,' a politically unpopular route that would no doubt lead to a constitutional showdown with the White House, if they are serious about bringing an end to the occupation or forcing a change in military strategy."

Deceptive or delusional?

Slate
by Fred Kaplan

09/13/07

President Bush’s TV address tonight was the worst speech he’s ever given on the war in Iraq, and that’s saying a lot. Every premise, every proposal, nearly every substantive point was sheer fiction. The only question is whether he was being deceptive or delusional. The biggest fiction was that because of the ’success’ of the surge, we can reduce U.S. troop levels in Iraq from 20 combat brigades to 15 by next July. Gen. David Petraeus has recommended this step, and President George W. Bush will order it so. Let’s be clear one more time about this claim: The surge of five extra combat brigades (bringing the total from 15 to 20) started in January. Their 15-month tours of duty will begin to expire next April. The Army and Marines have no combat units ready to replace them. The service chiefs refuse to extend the tours any further. The president refuses to mobilize the reserves any further. And so, the surge will be over by next July. This has been understood from the outset. It is the result of simple arithmetic, not of anyone’s decision, much less some putative success...

Zahlreiche Strafanzeigen gegen Verteidigungsminister Jung

Far from being a minor incursion, the Israeli overflight of Syrian airspace through its ally, Turkey, was a far more major affair involving as many as eight aircraft, including Israel's most ultra-modern F-15s and F-16s equipped with Maverick missiles and 500lb bombs.

Bush Setting America Up for War With Iran

Philip Sherwell and Tim Shipman report for The Telegraph UK: "Senior American intelligence and defense officials believe that President George W. Bush and his inner circle are taking steps to place America on the path to war with Iran. Pentagon planners have developed a list of up to 2,000 bombing targets in Iran, amid growing fears among serving officers that diplomatic efforts to slow Iran's nuclear weapons program are doomed to fail."

One major point is that there was a distinct alteration in the paper rolls sent to Sequoia for the 2000 election. Employees at the printing plant were used to a totally trouble free product for the punch cards used for over 30 years in elections.

They speculate offer personal reflections on why this may have occurred. What is troubling is that no has thoroughly investigated it.
