Gonzales Now Says Top Aides Got Political Briefings

Dan Eggen and Paul Kane of The Washington Post report in Saturday's editions that, "Justice Department officials attended at least a dozen political briefings at the White House since 2001, including some meetings led by Karl Rove, President Bush's chief political adviser, and others that were focused on election trends prior to the 2006 midterm contest, according to documents released yesterday. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales told the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that he did not believe that senior Justice Department officials had attended such briefings."

New Facebook Application to IMPEACH Cheney and More

TRY OUT THE NEW VOICES APPLICATION FOR FACEBOOK

We have some spectacular news. After months of development we have just launched a new Facebook application, which not only provides all the action page functions of our regular activist site, but also lets you create your own unlimited free action pages on any issues of your own you care about. The first featured action page is of course the hottest one in our system right now, the National Cheney Impeachment Poll, with nearly 100,000 submissions so far.

FACEBOOK IMPEACHMENT PAGE: http://apps.facebook.com/fb_voices/

ESPECIALLY if you are already a Facebook member, PLEASE share this action page with as many people as possible. With about 30 million of their own members, Facebook could make impeachment proceedings a reality all by itself.

Otherwise you can still submit our regular action page on this same issue.

STANDARD ACTION PAGE: http://www.usalone.com/cheney_impeachment.php

The White House has ordered the Justice Department not to prosecute contempt charges against any of its operatives who it had also ordered not to testify in the first place about the partisan U.S. attorney firing scandal. The appeal courts have already been stacked with right wing judges and they will not intervene. The solicitor general will not appoint a special counsel. Only through impeachment can we enforce a return to integrity.

And at the top of the impeachment list is vice president Dick Cheney, who secretly installed himself as the real power behind the White House throne. The lies to get us into Iraq, the torture of innocent Muslim bystanders, the illegal wiretaps of American citizens, none of these things would have happened without Cheney's heavy handed influence. And none will stop, including the locked in plans for an even more hideous military debacle in Iran, unless he is held to account by impeachment.

Cheney is not only the least popular, as demonstrated by the fact that 99.17 percent of all votes in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll so far have been Yes to impeach. Cheney is also the most guilty. So it makes perfect strategic sense to pursue his impeachment first, and we believe Bush will quickly follow from the same trail of evidence.

Cast your vote in the real time referendum now. Be part of the largest political mobilization in recent history. 17 members of Congress have already signed on to H.Res 333, the proposed articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney as proposed by Dennis Kucinich. The others are just waiting for one thing. Your VOICE to tell them to just do it.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.

Mobile mast plans sparks safety row

MOBILE phone company, TMobile UK, has applied to put up a 13 metre-high mast in a residential part of Ringwood.

The mast, along with equipment cabinets, is planned for a site at the junction of Eastfield Lane and Gorley Road.

But those plans have upset some residents on Eastfield Lane, who claim heavy goods vehicles are already using the road as a "rat run" and a mast would pose "more danger" to motorists and walkers.

And Ringwood Town Council's planning committee is recommending refusal for the mast, claiming its location would have an "adverse" affect on traffic safety.

Gas Pipeline Through the Amazon Flounders

RAINFOREST/CLIMATE CONSERVATION NEWS TODAY

Rainforest Portal and Climate Ark projects of Ecological Internet, Inc.

http://www.rainforestportal.org/ -- Rainforest Portal http://www.climateark.org/ -- Climate Ark Climate Change Portal

August 3, 2007

OVERVIEW & COMMENTARY
by Dr. Glen Barry, Ecological Internet

It is reported that plans to build a massive South American natural gas pipeline through the Amazon rainforest from the Caribbean to Brazil have "cooled off". This was the most atrocious of many inappropriate industrial developments planned for the Amazon which Ecological Internet has publicized and protested against for several years. No rainforest is ever protected indefinitely, as badly conceived projects tend to linger on for a long time. Yet given a one and a half year delay and signs that momentum for the project has been stymied, Ecological Internet is ready to declare this campaign a victory!

Congratulations to all those that participated, the Amazon rainforest is safer given your efforts. Ecological Internet's Earth Action Network first brought concerns over the pipeline to a global stage in February of 2006, issuing several alerts, to which 8,792 participants sent 75,765 protest emails over nearly a year. As the international profile of the twisted project grew, so did local protests on environmental and economic grounds. As is our intent, our efforts inspired grassroots global Earth activism.

It is vital for the Earth's and humanity's future to protect as global ecological reserves all remaining large contiguous and mostly intact natural ecosystems from industrial development of any type. To ensure continued sustainability of global biosphere functions, rich societies must pay for avoided deforestation and diminishment of ancient rainforests/forests, and encourage small-scale eco-forestry sustainable development activities by local peoples as the only acceptable ancient ecosystem use. Otherwise the Earth and her humanity will die a horrific death. g.b.

The negative power of Presidential wishful thinking

Cleveland Plain Dealer

by Elizabeth Sullivan

08/02/07

Rand Beers’ final White House assignment after working for four presidents was to fig ure out whether attacking Iraq would leave the back door open to another al-Qaida strike on the homeland.“But as we worked through that problem,” said Beers, then a counterterrorism adviser to President Bush, “it became clear to me that by the form of our entry into Iraq we were also diminishing our ability to operate more broadly in the world.”By early 2003, the coalition of the willing already had become much less willing. Any “huge diminution of support from that outpouring we had after 9/11? tied to an Iraq attack would severely compromise the fight against al-Qaida, Beers said in an interview Friday before a speech to the City Club of Cleveland. So Beers quit...

Help support the September 15th march in Washington

I am writing to you with the hope that you will help us organize and promote the September 15th March in Washington DC. Thousands of Americans from around the country will join together to demand the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and insist on the immediate end to the war in Iraq. September 15th is the date General David Petraeus is mandated to make a report to Congress on the progress of the so-called surge. The eyes of the national and international media will be focused on Washington DC at that time.

The strange origins of the doctrine of 'executive privilege'

TELL CONGRESS IT'S TIME TO IMPEACH GONZALES

The White House has ordered the Justice Department not to prosecute contempt charges against any of its operatives who it had also ordered not to testify in the first place.

Gonzales who HAS testified has told so many different stories that were he not himself the attorney general he would be facing perjury charges right now.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.usalone.com/impeach_gonzales.php

But of course even if he were convicted he would instantly be commuted or pardoned as was Scooter Libby. There is one and only one constitutional recourse left and that is impeachment. The appeal courts have already been stacked with right wing judges and they will not intervene. The solicitor general will not appoint a special counsel. Only through impeachment can Congress demand a return to integrity.

On Tuesday, July 31st, Jay Inslee proposed that the Judiciary Committee pursue the possible impeachment of Alberto Gonzales, who tried to browbeat a semi-conscious John Ashcroft into signing off on a patently illegal spying program, who was the point man in doing a legal end run around the laws against torture, who let the White House dictate which U.S. attorneys were not sufficiently partisan in their prosecutions, and who then lied repeatedly under oath about it all.

In today's Time magazine online article they examined the reasons Bush still has not dumped such an outright embarrassment of an attorney general, and the number one reason they cited was that "Bush needs someone at Justice who's going to watch the White House's back." Of course this is precisely the reason he must be impeached immediately. If his only purpose is to shield the Cheney White House from investigation and exposure of their own crimes he's the first one who has to go.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.usalone.com/impeach_gonzales.php

For those focused on impeaching Cheney and Bush we suggest this is not a distraction. Instead it could be an important strategic icebreaker. To just get the word "impeachment" past the lips of some members of Congress has been a major struggle. But our numbers are building fast, and once the dam breaks, it'll be Katy bar the door to the oval office.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.
