TELL CONGRESS TO VOTE FOR FULLY FUNDED WITHDRAWAL FROM IRAQ NOW

Call your members of Congress now toll free at 800-828-0498, 800-459-1887 or 800-614-2803.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.peaceteam.net/funded_withdrawal.php

Usually when we contact our members of Congress our great challenge is to get policy hostile Republicans to understand that even in THEIR districts we have enough people opposing them to threaten their reelection. But we certainly expect our OWN representatives to listen to us. So why is it that STILL some of our most progressive House members are not fully behind Barbara Lee's amendment for a fully funded withdrawal of our troops from the hopeless sandpit in Iraq. You would be astounded by the names of some of your own representatives who have not yet committed to taking a real stand to end this war.

Is it any wonder that the popularity of Congress has dropped almost 10 points in the last month, back down to 28%. The American people elected a Democratic majority in both houses to take ACTION, not to just wring their hands and pass the buck of responsibility. The essence of exercising power is to take responsibility. When pushed, Bush will say, "So, I'm responsible, whatcha gonna do?" Yet, on the most drop dead critical issue of our time, the Democratic so-called leadership seems to be resigned to casting token votes of limp protest, quiet whimpers of timid discomfort, with no actual force of law.

Oh sure, it's all very well to take pot shots at lying attorney generals and call for resignations. It's perfectly fine to issue subpoenas and demand testimony under oath from self-evident liars, to root out corruption and everything else, and even to grandstand while doing so, assuming they manage to stick to their guns in doing that. All those things must be done too. But NONE of those things require any actual bravery, just a majority in Congress.

Are our Democratic bigwigs only capable of setting up some kind of "We told you so" for 2008, without actually risking responsibility for real policy change? Are they triangulating their bets just in case the situation in Iraq happens to take a miraculous turn for the better, in defiance of all evidence on the ground and past experience of the same failing, rehashed strategy. Are they so petrified of being blamed for losing a war, which was ALREADY a strategic debacle the moment Bush decided to invade Iraq, that they will do nothing of substance about it. And are they so frightened of taking charge that they will meekly submit even to a gross and insane expansion into Iran, just to avoid being seen as insufficiently blood thirsty.

The difference between the supplemental war appropriation and some other bill to stop the war is that this is a measure that the president NEEDS from Congress. This is not a bill he can veto and count on having enough remaining rubber-stampers to scuttle an override. This may in fact be the ONLY meaningful chance we will have in the next two years to keep from inheriting the military policy disaster in Iraq, to embrace for our very own shame. The American people will not forgive the Democrats for caving in again, when they gave us enough power to stop the war for the very PURPOSE of exercising that power.

The last poll we've seen shows that MORE than 90% of Democrats (and even a quarter of self-identified Republicans) OPPOSE dragging on a continuation of the Iraq war. Where are the 90% of Democratic House members who will represent their constituencies. Where are they? Where are 90% of Democratic members of Congress who will take a stand right NOW to STOP this immoral horror. And where are the 90% of Democratic presidential candidates who will do more than say their patience is wearing "thin," about four years too late.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.peaceteam.net/funded_withdrawal.php

What kind of backroom conspiracy is in place to allow votes on non binding resolutions, but NOT on amendments which would actually DO something. Why has Nancy Pelosi taken all options of any actual consequence off the table? Of course the president will veto anything that even suggests a check or a balance. What kind of phony activism is it to avoid a confrontation, where one is absolutely unavoidable and inevitable, and without which the outrages will just continue to grow more outrageous? That is all the more reason why we must put forth the strongest position possible.

Wasn't this demonstrated yet again today with the president adamantly refusing to let any aide be questioned under oath and on the record about their stacking of the deck in the justice department? Hear the words of old Nixon hand, and new Bush stonewall master, Fred Fielding telling Congress to run along and play like nice little children, refusing to negociate about anything more than informal and constrictive bull sessions.

"Such interviews would be private and conducted without the need for an oath, transcript, subsequent testimony, or the subsequent issuance of subpoenas . . . We trust and believe that the accommodations we offer here, in addition to what the Justice Department has provided, should satisfy the committee's interests."

Who do they think they are talking down to? Many of our senators and representatives are themselves experienced and seasoned prosecuting attorney generals from their own states. What disrepect for the prerogative of Congress! Isn't it perfectly obvious that they are counting on having enough crony judges in place to abort any credible investigation, in the case of a subpoena showdown? Are we the only ones who are reminded of IDENTICAL conditions imposed on the 9/11 commission about the testimony of Bush and Cheney, and what chumps the commissioners were at that time to submit to such a charade of an investigation?

Let us also remember that Alberto Gonzales is the same attorney general who, when the scandal of the NSA wiretapping first broke, stated that the White House was willing to listen to the "suggestions" of Congress. Suggestions?!?! Hello . . . Congress passes LAWS, the laws of the land. What we have here is a contempt for Congress, and their Constitution role, so endemic that nothing can possibly heal the body politic but a stone cold confrontation.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.peaceteam.net/funded_withdrawal.php

And the best and most important place to start is by demanding that any new Iraq appropriation be DEDICATED for the mission of getting our armed forces out of the Iraq civil war, where they are the primary obstacle to achieving the political settlement, which is the only possible solution. Please call your members of Congress and tell them this is the moment. This is the time. Do it now.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.

Though they’ve been used by American presidents for about 200 years, signing statements — edicts issued by the president to declare his intent to construe a provision within a law differently than Congress does — are constitutionally questionable. But George W. Bush’s use of them far exceeds his predecessors’, and he has consistently used them to flout the will of the legislative branch. Though the GAO report makes no claims about the legitimacy of Bush’s statements or of the use of statements in general, it indicates that, in practice, the statements have the effect of nullifying the law in question in about 30 percent of cases...

Executive Orders

Liberty For All
by Jessi Winchester

Ever wonder why more and more prisons are being built but so many stand empty? Current presidential executive orders certainly make it clear. Under a ‘national emergency,’ these prisons would become concentration camps for American citizens run by F.E.M.A. [Federal Emergency Management Agency]. The FEMA website is quite candid about the fact that for the past 15 years presidential executive orders authorize the agency to exercise powers akin to Nazi Germany’s should a ‘national emergency’ be declared... 03/20/07

An indispensable operating principle of any viable democracy is that the judicial branch of government function free from interference by the executive or the legislature. The other hallmarks of democracy — regular elections, freedom of speech and press, written laws and administrative procedures, etc. — are all hobbled, if not nullified, if judges and other judicial system officers are subject to coercion, whether direct or oblique, by external forces. Over the past decade, the focus of those defending an independent judiciary has been to publicly defend judges from the intemperate attacks of the likes of the deposed House Majority Leader, Rep. Tom Delay (R-Texas). … Less strident but more insidious than Delay’s brand of bluster, the Bush administration and its supporters, with their bizarre and dangerous notions of an imperial presidency and unitary executive, have been stacking the federal bench with judges who they believe will genuflect to their will...

Creating poverty: one thing government does successfully

No Force, No Fraud

Because government actions are forced upon all of us, we are left with no alternative but to suffer the increased cost. In an uncontrolled market … a free market … we would have a wide variety of products at differing prices. We would have, for example, inexpensive automobiles, less expensive food, and truly affordable housing. Versions of all those items would still be available at higher, more expensive, levels for those who could afford them, but we would each have the choice of trading a bit of safety for lower prices. Such was the America we once had, an America that made it possible for poor immigrants arriving here to not only survive, but, through frugality and hard work, work their up the economic scale...

The United States today denies love and freedom so deeply that its leaders justify torture and order its use. Our government violates the principles of love and freedom in nearly everything it does, from aggressive wars that have left hundreds of thousands dead, to a ‘war on poverty’ that has caused millions of children to grow up without their fathers (else momma would lose benefits). The U.S. expresses its coercive, corrupt, and phony ‘compassion’ by means of a ‘war on drugs’ that has put millions in prison over the years (mostly for using a safe herb) and created vast and violent criminal empires; the reach of this particular policy has stretched across the globe, wreaking violence and corruption in Columbia, Afghanistan, and many other nations. America has overthrown elected foreign governments (mostly for corporate gain), installed and supported vile dictators, and taught the secret police agencies of those dictators how to torture dissidents and otherwise repress dissent...

Every word the War Party rattled off before the invasion — the reasons for the invasion, the ‘evidence’ of WMD, the alleged connection between the Iraqi regime and 9/11 — was either a lie or a half-truth intended to obscure the full truth. He and his pal Ahmed Chalabi belong to the legion of ‘heroes in error’: they’re proud of their deceit. Ballygar residents vow to fight mast plans

By Mairead O’Shea

Pat Hannon, Chairman of the Ballygar residents group addresses a public meeting in the town where plans by O2 for the erection of a mast are being opposed. The residents of Cloonlyon and Ballygar have vowed to fight plans by O2 to erect a mobile phone mast in the area. Almost two hundred people turned out at a public meeting in Ballygar last Thursday night to voice their concerns over a proposal to erect a 36m mast in Cloonlyon village.

O2 Communications Ireland applied to Galway County Council on February 20th for planning permission to erect a 36m antennae at Cloonlyon, Ballygar.

Mr Pat Hannon, chairman of the local residents group, explained that people had serious concerns over possible health effects, the devaluation of property and the obtrusive nature of the proposed mast.

“We have serious concerns on the grounds of possible health risks to humans and livestock. We heard from a farmer from County Tipperary at the meeting who experienced such health effects. The proposed mast is also in an area of local scenic beauty as at is on a walkway in the woods, which is regularly used by the people of the area. At 130 feet we feel that the mast will be enormous and we also fear that it will devalue property in the area,” said Mr Hannon.

The chairman went on to point out that three mobile phone antennae were already located on a mast on Mount Mary, which was only 3.5km from Cloonlyon. “I can’t understand why O2 can’t co-locate with the existing mast on Mount Mary. It’s only 3.5km from Cloonlyon and it covers an area from Glenamaddy to Athleague,” said Mr Hannon.

TDs and local councillors offered their support to the residents in their fight against 02.

The speakers at the meeting included Mr Con Colbert, Secretary of the Irish Doctors Environmental Association.

Mr Colbert referred to the guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation on permissible levels of radiation as “thousands of times higher in Ireland and the UK than in the US and Australia”.

The local residents are this week preparing individual and group objections to the O2 proposal. They have a further two weeks to lodge an objection with Galway County Council. Mr Hannon pointed out that plans were also underway to hold a public protest on the issue outside the offices of Galway County Council in the coming weeks. He said that residents would fight the O2 proposal and if necessary appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanala.

Iraq: A country drenched in blood

Four years to the day after US and British troops invaded Iraq, its people are full of fear. Iraqis often have a look of half-suppressed panic in their eyes as they tell how violent death has touched them again and again.

What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom?

A Documentary from Adam Curtis (BBC) - The Trap (2007)

Curtis is best known for his 2004 series The Power of Nightmares: The Rise Of The Politics of Fear. This detailed how neocons in the US talked up the threat of radical Islamism to justify their "war on terror". The Trap is even more ambitious in scope. Like The Power Of Nightmares, it uses archive footage and interviews to explore the history and political impact of an idea - in this case the model of "individual freedom" that underlies neoliberal economics.

On a Sick Planet, Hospitals Must Go Green

Stacy Malkan writes: "It's a sad irony of modern living that the health care industry - the largest single industrial sector in the US economy, and one that generates two million tons of waste per year - adds to the toxic load in a polluted environment that is, in turn, making people sick."

US Institutional Investors Call for "Green" Legislation

Dozens of institutional investors managing a combined $4 trillion in assets have signed a statement urging Congress to pass strict laws to curb greenhouse gas emissions. The agreement calls for federal legislation that would reduce heat-trapping emissions of carbon dioxide by 60 to 90 percent by 2050, compared with 1990 levels.

Claiming that the release of detailed information on oil and gas pipelines could aid terrorists or troublemakers, pipeline companies in Washington state are appealing a judge's order that they disclose to the public specifics about their potentially explosive lines. The subprime scandal

The American Prospect
by Robert Kuttner

03/19/07

The Bush administration and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce picked an awkward moment for their latest assault on financial and consumer-protection regulation. At the very moment that Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson was meeting with Wall Street bigwigs in a high-profile confab this week to call for weakening the post-Enron Sarbanes-Oxley Act and other investor and consumer protections, the stock market was tanking. Why is the market so nervous? Mainly thanks to the latest bitter fruit of financial deregulation: the collapsing $1.3 trillion ’subprime’ mortgage business, which now accounts for one mortgage in three. Here is a textbook case of why financial institutions need to be regulated, to protect both consumers and the solvency of the larger economy...

Four years in Iraq, and most important lesson eludes us

Tennessean
by Saritha Prabhu

03/19/07

Four years isn’t a long time but, in the context of the Iraq war, can seem like an eternity. Was it only four years ago that we sat and watched TV images of American tanks hurtling across Iraqi desert sands? The prevailing mood in this country, then, was a mixture of gung ho and unsure. This, many thought, was going to be the mother of all reality shows — 21st-century warfare in real time, the world’s mightiest military, fly-swatting a bratty country. That was then, and here we are now, in the war’s fifth year — past statue-toppling and museum-looting; past ‘Mission Accomplished,’ ‘Stuff happens’ and ‘Bring it on!’; past purple fingers, elections and constitutions; past car bombs, IEDs, beheadings and torturing; past talks of partition and is-it-or-isn’t-it-civil-war debates...

Would terrorists from Iraq follow US troops home?

Independent Institute
by Ivan Eland

03/19/07

The Bush administration, desperate for justifications to buy a little more time with the American people for its failed adventure in Iraq, markets the idea that if the United States rapidly withdraws from Iraq, the ‘terrorists will follow us home.’ A closer examination of this assertion — like the rest of the administration’s fear mongering — demonstrates it is baseless. U.S. State Department statistics show that historically, North America has had the lowest incidence of terrorism worldwide. The American public’s shocked reaction to the catastrophic 9/11 attacks was due, in part, to the infrequency of past terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. After the unique events of 9/11, terrorism in North America has resumed its historical modest trajectory. North America has been a relative safe haven from terrorism for several reasons...

What a dispirited, dispiriting speech President George W. Bush delivered this morning to mark the fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. One could argue that it would have been dishonest to deliver any other sort of speech, for few things are more dispiriting than this war, which has now gone on for a quarter-year longer than America’s involvement in World War II. Yes, the war in Iraq is a very different war, but one would have thought — certainly we were told — it would be a lot shorter. Lessons of the anti-war movement

CounterPunch
by Ron Jacobs

03/19/07

On Saturday March 17th, Appeal to Reason co-founder Liam Madden and a number of other Iraq vets stood on the stage near the Pentagon and called for people to move from protest to resistance. Madden’s call echoed similar suggestions that have been coming up more frequently among movement activists. In fact, some groups have already begun this move, occupying legislator’s offices and insisting that they do more than say they are against the war while they vote to continue funding it. In Washington state, activists with the Port Militarization Resistance have attempted to block shipments of Stryker vehicles and other supplies on their way to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan from the ports of Olympia and Tacoma. On March 16th, Christian antiwar activists participated in a sit-in across from the White House to protest the war. These instances are but a few examples of how the momentum of the movement can be pushed forward...

Gonzales’s fall, Bush’s impeachment?

LewRockwell.Com
by James Bovard

03/20/07

Alberto Gonzales will soon be ejected from the Justice Department. Bush’s Attorney General has been caught in too many flagrant lies and abuses. The real question is whether Gonzo’s fall will signal the beginning of the end of the Bush reign. Gonzo’s fall will be widely seen as a result of shenanigans and deceits involving the firing of 8 U.S. attorneys. The White House and top Justice Department officials seem to have colluded to deep-six attorneys who threatened Republican congressmen or appointees. The pending congressional testimony by Gonzo’s former chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, could create new problems for the White House. But Bush is probably in much greater danger from the derailing [of] a Justice Department investigation into Gonzo’s possibly criminality...

The Islamo-fascist rationale for abandoning liberty

Future of Freedom Foundation
by Jacob G. Hornberger

03/16/07

Throughout the many years of the Cold War, conservatives maintained that it was necessary to have an enormous military and military-industrial complex to protect us from the Soviet communists who were threatening to conquer the United States and the Western world. Throughout those years, one glaring fact stands out: At no time did conservatives ever claim that Islamo-fascism was a threat that required a massive military machine. The threat was always communism, especially Soviet communism...

Too Guilty to Fly, Too Innocent to Charge?

The proliferation of government watch lists is a troubling development in the "war on terrorism." The challenges of such lists include differences of opinion on who's actually a security threat, consolidating information across agencies by making the computer systems communicate the with one another.

Bush's Book List Gets More Islamophobic

Accounts of a Feb. 28 "literary luncheon" at the White House suggest that President George W. Bush's reading tastes -- until now a remarkably good predictor of his policy views -- are moving ever rightward, even apocalyptic, despite his administration's recent suggestions that it is more disposed to engage Washington's foes, even in the Middle East.

US Air Force Col.: Bulgaria - Option for Military Base aganst Iran

The forces are in place to conduct a strike right now. The US has moved an additional carrier group, has deployed additional missile defense assets, has deployed an additional mine sweeping ship to the gulf. The US is in the process of adding oil to a strategic petroleum reserve. All of these are the steps that would be taken if one were going to conduct a strike in Iran.

An interesting Quote in an Alzheimer's Disease Forum

This article may date back to last year, but Alzheimer's Groups don't often acknowledge a link to EMFs, so I draw your attention to it, since it is a personal case, with an e-mail address.

Martin

http://alzheimers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/214102241/m/8041028251

(see specifically Joanne C. Mueller's note):-

Hi: Certainly we caregivers and Alzheimers' sufferers need to remain hopeful. In order to spare those of you who have already read my other rather lengthy posts, I am going to skip most of my history -- reasons why I have been researching EMF/EMR (electromagnetic fields/electromagnetic radiation) for over a decade.

You will notice that "DRUGS" are the main theme in most if not all articles re new scientific discoveries.

Scientists don't dare do the studies that show "cause" due to toxic, EMF pollution. They lose their funding and/or don't receive funds in the first place.

Dr. George Carlo's "docu-drama," The Boiling Frog Syndrome" will be released to theatres some time in 2007 (health problems due to cell phone useage). Dr. Carlo worked for the cell phone industry and was even threatened for sharing the truth. He stopped speaking out but is once again trying to educate the public.

I am saddened to note that even the Alzheimers site does not include precautionary info re chronic, prolonged exposures of EMF/EMR!

Studies many years ago linked Alzheimers with women working in the sewing industry. Any electrical device puts out a magnetic field and in the case of a sewing machine, levels can be 4.0 milligauss or more in the typical location for one's head while sewing.

PREVENTION is vitally important and one way to help do that is to make sure electrical items are kept at least 4 ft. away from the head of one's bed. I don't know what one does about extensive sewing machine use.

There have been Workers' Comp cases re health problems and on-the-job electrical exposure. This is not something that is mysterious and unknown as researchers, government and industry would like you to believe.

The 2002 EMF California Report links brain cancer, Leukemia, Lou Gehrig's Disease and miscarriage to levels as low as 4.0 milligauss.

The 1999 EMF RAPID Conclusions name low level EMF's as Class 2B carcinogens.

The National Library of Congress website identifies EMF's as "toxic...."

"AGEING" (of the cells) is what happens when a person sleeps every night exposed to even low levels of EMF/EMR.

I have previously mentioned my grandsons' rare immune (an "ageing of their cells" -- they were infant/toddler ages) that predisposed them to Leukemia, etc. and that they "got well" after we moved their beds away from walls opposite electric meters.

AMYLOID was identified in one of my guinea pigs who had been exposed to
(inside) bedroom wall in our house opposite where the electric meter is mounted (outside). The University Vet who did the necropsy identified the particular amyloid as "reactive."

Obviously drugs are still necessary to try and reverse the ravages of Alzheimers (continuing to rise at alarming rates) BUT, it is more than possible any such medications once released to the public, might only be effective a short time and/or actually worsen a victim's situation IF persons aren't warned about sleeping close to electrical items, the need to check for improper wiring and correction of grounding problems, etc.

Don't give up on prayer, hope or positive thinking but do what you can to help your loved one regardless of their stage and also to help yourself prevent every health problem all the way from poor sleep to cancer!!! Joanne

The Republican Party's unwillingness to advance a genuine conservative has left millions of grassroots Republicans on the verge of leaving the GOP. Do whatever it takes to stop the harassment and slaughter of the wild Yellowstone bison!

BFC SPECIAL ALERT!
* Spring into Action for Wild Buffalo!

PLEASE CALL YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE TUESDAY, MARCH 20!

Dear Buffalo Friends,

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 20, BFC's Josh Osher and Darrell Geist will present testimony to the House Subcommittee for National Parks, Forests and Public Lands at the Oversight Hearing on Yellowstone National Park Bison.

BFC will demonstrate that the Interagency Bison Management Plan (IBMP) is failing the last population of wild bison in the U.S., the Yellowstone herd, which currently numbers fewer than 3,600 animals. The IBMP, signed in 2000, is a state-federal agency plan responsible for the harassment, capture, slaughter and quarantine of wild Yellowstone buffalo. Since the IBMP's inception, 1,912 Yellowstone bison have been killed by Yellowstone and Montana. The hearing will begin at 10 AM (est) and can be viewed live by going to: http://resourcescommittee.house.gov/hearings/hearingdetail.aspx?NewsID=36.

We have waited a very long time for an opportunity like this. Tomorrow's hearing marks an amazing chapter in the buffalo's story and they need your help to make it as powerful as possible.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION! Call the House Parks Subcommittee & your House Representative on Tuesday!

1) If you live in the home district of one of the Subcommittee members please contact her/him on behalf of the last wild buffalo because it is especially critical that they hear from you! Urge them to do whatever it takes to stop the harassment and slaughter of the wild Yellowstone bison. Contact information for each member of the House subcommittee is listed below or here at this link: http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/cgi-bin/newcommittee.cgi?site=ctc&lang=&commcode=hresources_parks

2) Don't see your Representative listed? Use the following contact info to get your message to the subcommittee membership: Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands, 1333 Longworth House Office Building, Phone: (202) 226-7736, Fax: (202) 226-2301
Email: parks.subcommittee@mail.house.gov (Entire Committee)

3) If your House representative is not on the Subcommittee, please contact them anyway and urge them to take a leadership role in protecting the Yellowstone bison, the United State's last continuously wild herd (use link below).

4) Please contact your Senators and urge them to hold a similar hearing in the Senate (use link below).

Urge the Subcommittee (and all of Congress) to provide clear direction to our National Forests and Parks that wild bison belong, and are our top priority on public lands and ask them to fund the purchase of wildlife conservation easements including winter range and corridors for bison to migrate through private lands in the Yellowstone area. BFC will be visiting with Congressional offices over the next two weeks and your calls will make a huge difference! To contact non-Subcommittee members as well as your Senators use this link (scroll down to the bottom of the page): http://www.buffalofieldcampaign.org/actnow/politicians.html

The American Worker Is Doomed

"Not since the Great Depression has the American worker faced such a bleak future. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, incomes for the lowest income quintile have declined during the past decade and the gap between the rich and the poor grows bigger each year. In essence, the rich are getting richer - and the poor are getting poorer. It's high time for a change," says Jay Richards.

Capitol Hill Holds Hearing on Black Male Unemployment

The black male unemployment rate is unacceptably high and it is time for the federal government to do something about it. That was the conclusion of a March 5 hearing held by the Joint Economic Committee, a bicameral, bipartisan committee of US representatives and senators who are charged with studying the nation's economy and making recommendations to the government for changes, if necessary.

World's Most Important Crops Hit by Global Warming Effects

Global warming over the past quarter-century has led to a fall in the yield of some of the most important food crops in the world, according to one of the first scientific studies of how climate change has affected cereal crops. Rising temperatures between 1981 and 2002 caused a loss in production of wheat, corn and barley that amounted in effect to some 40 million tons a year.

Despite the fact that the hundreds of scientists and reviewers on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change announced February 2nd in Paris that global warming is "very likely" caused by human activity, governments and other policy-makers may still justify inaction because of naysayers like Danish weather scientist Henrik Svensmark, who maintains that global climate change can be attributed to the proportion of cosmic rays in our atmosphere.

Investors to Press US Congress on Global Warming

Joining a rising corporate chorus itching to sink money into clean energy projects, big investors will press the US Congress to pass laws attempting to tackle global warming. Military Is Ill-Prepared for Other Conflicts

Four years after the invasion of Iraq, the high and growing demand for US troops there and in Afghanistan has left ground forces in the United States short of the training, personnel and equipment that would be vital to fight a major ground conflict elsewhere, senior US military and government officials acknowledge. More troubling, the officials say, is that it will take years for the Army and Marine Corps to recover.
