Pakistan concerns conveyed to US over any drone attacks extension

Our Murderers in the Sky

By Scott Ritter

War is hell, as the saying goes. Murder, on the other hand, is a crime. In this age of the "long war" pitting the United States against the forces of global terror, it is critical that the American people be able to distinguish between the two.

U.S. Occupation and the Corrupt, Mafia-state of Hamid Karzai

By Mike Whitney

It's too bad Barack Obama didn't consult with Malalai Joya before giving his Nobel acceptance speech on Thursday. The ex-Afghan Parliamentarian could have helped the president to see that the ongoing US occupation is damaging to both American and Afghan interests. Afghanistan is not the "just war" that Obama defends so passionately in his speech. It's part of a larger US geopolitical strategy.

Mercenaries and Assassins

The Real Face of Obama's "Good War"

By Bill Van Auken

Blackwater's role as an extra-legal extension of the Central Intelligence Agency tasked with dirty operations with which the CIA did not want its employees directly associated is more than evident.

'Just War' Is Just Words

By Ralph Nader

President Obama, the Afghan war escalator, received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway, and proceeded to deliver his acceptance speech outlining the three criteria for a "just war" which he himself is violating.

Pakistan concerns conveyed to US over any drone attacks extension

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit told a private channel Tuesday. The United States can better understand the implications of extension of drone attacks and it is hoped that the US will not only avoid it but also stop such attacks in FATA areas, he said while talking to Samaa TV.

DINA and CIA assassinations

Future of Freedom Foundation
by Jacob G. Hornberger

12/11/09

Two of my blog posts this week have caused me to ponder the similarities of the mind-sets of the people in Augusto Pinochet’s secret intelligence force (known as DINA) and those in George W. Bush’s and Barack Obama’s CIA. One blog post was about the CIA’s use of drone attacks to assassinate people in Pakistan and the other was about Pinochet’s assassination of a former Chilean president. In Pakistan, the CIA is using drone missile attacks to kill people who the CIA is convinced are guilty of terrorism...

Less Than Citizens: Occupation Wars and Rights

Nick Mottern, Truthout: "How is the United States using its 'all volunteer' military, and is this not violating basic civil and human rights of US military personnel and their families? Moreover, it is important to examine how apparent violations of the constitutional rights of US military and their families are a direct result of US violation of rights of the peoples of Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan."

Blistering Indictment Leveled Against Obama Over His Handling of Bush-Era War Crimes

Jason Leopold, Truthout: "Obama has substituted words for action on issues surrounding torture since his first days in office nearly one year ago. That’s the point the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) made shortly after Obama’s acceptance Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech. Officials from the civil rights organization issued a withering indictment of the Obama administration’s handling of clear-cut cases of Bush-era war crimes."

The America Where They Do Prosecute Torture

Sam Ferguson, Truthout: "Last week, 15 men entered a courthouse facing, amongst other crimes, 181 counts of torture. Their story, tragically, is familiar: in a fight against terrorism, the men allegedly kidnapped and held detainees in unknown black sites. They subjected the prisoners to brutal forms of interrogation, such as waterboarding, sensory deprivation and simulated executions. They denied the detainees all legal recourse, and they defended their secret practices as essential to combating an elusive enemy who refused to play by the rules."
