Worried parents attack mast plan

By Brian Gomm

CONCERNED parents are making a stand against plans to replace a village club flag pole with a mobile phone mast.

The Astley Against Mobile Mast (AAMM) group want to ensure people are aware of Vodaphone's intention to site a 12 metres high mast at Astley Labour Club at the centre of Blackmoor village.

Co-ordinator Debbie Jones, has an infant son who suffer from Down Syndrome and is understandably worried about any possible health risk.

Debbie explained: "Our main concern is the possible relationship between the emissions and the adverse physical, and pyschological effects upon health that some research has claimed.

"We don't want people exposed to any possible risks that have been associated with mobile telephone masts, especially those who healthwise are already vulnerable, although it has been argued that there is no substantiated evidence to prove that the emissions are a risk to health. Yet who knows what will happen a good few years ahead?

"Children diagnosed with Down Syndrome under the age of 10 years are 18 times more likely of getting leukaemia. I'm not suggesting living near to this mast will cause our sons to get leukaemia, but nor do I want to live in fear that this could possibly make them even more susceptible; as yet I have not found any evidence to support my fears, but none the less it is still a fear.

"The notice was placed outside of the club two days prior to school holidays and many parents won't have seen it."

AAMM are urging people who share their worries to write, e-mail or telephone their objections to Vodaphone's agents (quoting Ref No c5 45141), David Wareing Turner and partners, Templar House, 1 Sandbeck Court, Sandbeck Way, Wetherby, LS22 7BA; e-mail: david.wareing@turnerandpartners.co.uk or phone 01937 543910.

Families fight phone mast plans

17 August 2006

RESIDENTS have vowed to fight a mobile phone company that plans to install a mast just yards from a primary school.

Hutchinson 3G have submitted a planning application to install a five-metre high telecommunications mast in Park Crescent, Erith.

The mast, which will have three antennas and two dishes attached, will be positioned on the former Riversfield Manor, an 1860 building.

Residents first heard news of the proposal at a public meeting at Christ Church Primary School, Lesney Park Road, last Thursday.

It is feared the mast may be harmful to children who attend nearby schools such as Christ Church, St Fidelis Catholic Primary School, Bexley Lane, and Erith Secondary School, Avenue Road.

Ken Lawrence, who is spearheading the campaign against the proposals, said: "Almost all residents are against the phone mast and people with children are worried."

Residents have found support in their ward councillors and MP who have vowed to support their campaign.

John Austin, MP for Erith and Thamesmead, urged residents to write to Hutchinson 3G to lodge their objection.

Erith ward councillor Bernard Clewes said: "I feel sorry for the neighbours and residents who are being subjecting to worry and concern.

"We support residents in their opposition to the phone mast. Residents are in a situation of which they potentially have little control and we will assist them.

"We will fight with them against the phone mast."

A spokesman for Bexley council said the planning application had been submitted and added that a date for a committee meeting was yet to be confirmed.

A spokesman for Hutchinson 3G was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.

Move to nip mast plan in the bud

17 August 2006

EDITORIAL - editorial@thecomet.net

Residents Richard Barr with five-year-old Emily (left) and Tony Brazier with Rachel, 6, and Thomas 9, at the proposed mast site

MORE than 700 signatures have been gathered to try to stop a 10m high phone mast being erected in the heart of a picturesque residential area.

Residents sprang into action when they found out that T-Mobile was looking to put a mast outside the post office on Norton Road, Letchworth GC.

The phone company has not yet applied for planning permission, but has consulted local schools over the proposal, prompting residents to set up the Norton Road Area Conservation Group (NRACG).

The group has already written to TCI, the agents for T-Mobile.

T-Mobile wants to put up the mast to provide coverage for Norton but the group believes that three existing sites nearby - including one in Blackhorse Road owned by T-Mobile - could be upgraded to do the job.

Richard Barr from NRACG said: "I think they've not been thorough in looking at existing sites.

"One of the things that the mobile phone operators pride themselves on is doubling up on masts that are already in existence.

"There are three existing installations, two of which don't appear to have be considered at all."

The group is also objecting to the mast on health grounds.

In its letter to TCI, it says that "uncertainty still remains amongst scientists and medical experts" about the long term impact of exposure to radiation.

The letter adds that residents in the area "are not willing to run this risk, particularly with our children".

The group also feels the location of the mast is inappropriate and will have a "negative impact through visual intrusion".

The site is between two English Heritage listed buildings and is one of the main entry points to Letchworth GC.

Mr Barr said: "We recognise the need but think the need could be met with alternatives.

"I think there could be a solution that all parties could be happy with."

A spokesman for T-Mobile said that because of the group's letter, the company was going to investigate sharing an existing site owned by Orange and also whether or not the T-Mobile mast in Blackhorse Road could be upgraded.

However, the spokesman stressed that T-Mobile "can't make any promises without going through the processes".

He added: "We need that base station to provide 3G services to that part of Letchworth. The problem with these is because of the frequencies we've been allocated we need more base stations."

He said the masts will meet health and safety guidelines and that a planning application is likely to be made within the next week or two.

Mast campaigners want mass march

By Robert Fisk

The anti-mast campaigners have been protesting since February BR3768

ANTI-MAST campaigners are mobilising to march on Downing Street.

The protestors have been fighting with T-Mobile over the mast site at the corner of St Paul's Wood Hill and Beddington Road, St Paul's Cray, since February.

They have also got a petition together against Orange's plans to put a mast up in the same area.

The group now wants to link up with anti-mast campaigners from across the country for a mass protest in central London which will include a visit to 10 Downing Street.

One of the protestors, mother-of-three Sam Anderson, is in talks with the Met Police about a potential route for the march, which she hopes will take place by the end of September.

She is also in contact with Mast Sanity, an organisation which has links with other protest groups across the country, to try to get the highest number of people possible involved.

The 35-year-old said: "I'm doing it because I care. A lot of masts are disguised to look like trees so there is not even a warning there is one there.

"In our opinion it has escalated out of control and it needs to be addressed.

"It is happening all over the country.

"We want people to volunteer in their own organisations and groups and do massive leaflet drops."

Mrs Anderson, of Thorndon Close, St Paul's Cray, added: "We want to get it en masse and we want to get letters going to MPs.

"If more and more people bombard their MPs by sending them letters they will have to start to listen.

"They should not put masts up near homes or schools until there is more scientific evidence. We want to get this sorted as soon as possible.

"If everyone pulls together it could be massive."

Call Mrs Anderson on 020 8302 4043 to get involved with the campaign.

TOWN CENTRE PHONE MAST PLAN

THE possibility of a new mobile phone mast being erected on the Caledonian Hotel in Leven was due to be debated on Tuesday.

Councillors have been advised to grant planning permission to Orange for the installation of three antennae and a satellite dish, despite strong local objection.

Residents of nearby Forth Street are concerned at the site's proximity to houses and a local nursery school.

One objector pointed out: "The health risks associated with exposure to mobile phone technology are well documented and continue to be monitored."

Another stated: "It is not a suitable development in a mixed residential/business area."

However, local planning chiefs believe the application is an appropriate one and have recommended it for approval, subject to some minor conditions.

They don't consider health concerns to be "material in assessment of this application" and stressed the mast would have no affect on Leven's appearance.

The decision was due to be taken at Tuesday's meeting of Fife Council's central area development committee in Kirkcaldy.

Alzheimers: Prevention doesn't require a billion dollars

THE FORWARDED PORTION OF THIS EMAIL WAS ADDRESSED TO MEDIA FOR THE ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION (U.S.).

I previously located information that our National Institute of Health has set a very high priority on research involving protein folding problems (heat shock protein also known as "environmental stress protein"). I was "very excited" thinking, finally, the issue re amyloid formation will be taken very seriously.

WRONG!!! What is being taken seriously is the work that is being put into developing new drugs to "supposedly treat" Alzheimers and other diseases (many including Type II Diabetes, M.S., and even some Leukemias) that involve the formation of amyloid.

In other words, what I mistakenly believed might open-the-door to "prudent avoidance" is just a major effort to "keep-the-lid-on" the "whys and wherefores" of amyloid formation so that BIG PHARMA can make lots of money and continue paying off charities and organizations that purport to want to help people!!!!

Take care everyone and "keep on fighting for the innocent victims" as best you/we can in spite of all the greed!!! Joanne

"Prevention" doesn't require a billion dollars!!!!

Hellooo!!! Is anyone out there? Is anyone listening?

All we see is the need for more MONEY.....more STUDIES....more DRUGS!!! http://www.alz.org/News/06Q3/081506.asp

Does anyone CARE that epidemiological studies were done many years ago that linked Alzheimers to nuns who frequently used sewing machines? That epidemiological studies were done years ago that linked industrial sewing machine workers to Alzheimers? And more........

Does anyone CARE that in 1994, The American Cancer Society used to send out an article from "USA Today" recommending persons MOVE electric appliances away from the heads of beds?

Does anyone CARE that the electrical utilities' communications' experts prepared a publication in 2001 that states "....you may want to replace your electric clock with a battery-operated or wind-up clock?

Does anyone CARE that my husband's profound and unusual memory loss which was later diagnosed as Alzeimers IMPROVED -- his neuropsych test -- after we moved his electric clock?

Does anyone CARE that the 1999 EMF Interagency Committee Report has never been presented to Congress that classifies low level EMF's (electromagnetic fields) as Class 2B carcinogens?

Does anyone CARE that the 2002 California EMF Report links EMF's as low as 4.0 milligauss to brain cancer, Leukemia, Lou Gehrig's Disease and miscarriage?

WHEN will the Alzheimers Association inform the public that amyloid forms as result of chronic, prolonged exposure to low levels of EMF/EMR so our country and countries around-the-world will begin to once again inform their citizens of the need to practice "prudent avoidance?"

Two of our grandsons suffered rare immune deficiencies from sleeping close to electric meters (mounted on bedroom walls)!!! They GOT WELL after their beds were moved!!! We were told they may develop Leukemia. Their immune deficiency was RARE because these two toddlers' (cousins in different homes) cells were AGING!!!"

My guinea pig studies after exposing to "powerwall" in my home yielded pre-Leukemic blood changes including "hypersegmented neutrophils" (slowed DNA synthesis) which are "markers for irradiation!!!" One out of each set of two died within 30 days of exposure to the electric meter. One died several years later due to REACTIVE Renal AMYLOIDOSIS!!! This is a TSE-like problem -- the "mad cow family of diseases!"

Deliberate "non-action" by the World Health Organization (WHO) re withholding of "prudent avoidance information" to the public is not helping. Dr. Michael Repacholi -- former head of WHO's Radiation Section is a paid-off representative with funds coming from industry that chooses to let people get sick and die rather than inform the public about simple, precautionary measures such as moving electric items from bedrooms, turning off circuits to bedrooms at night, checking electrical wiring for possible errors, dealing with grounding problems that may eliminate electrical currents on waterpipes and more.

About 51% of all health problems all the way from poor sleep to cancer might be greatly reduced if organizations such as yours begin to pay attention to what I call "an avoidable healthcare crisis!!!"

The public more than realizes that drugs are not the answer -- that most drugs cause as many problems as they purport to help. Imagine the funding that could come to the Alzheimers' Association IF announcements are made to affected persons and their caregivers that may actually help! Even for those most severely afflicted who reside in nursing home facilities might sleep better and have less delusions and hallucinations if information regarding Melatonin is provided. Melatonin is greatly reduced by chronic, prolonged EMF/EMR exposure also.

Isn't it time to let the public in on this well-kept secret? Thanks and take care - Joanne

Mast rejected in 'Lady Hamilton's garden'

It was the spot where Lady Emma Hamilton is said to have watched for the mast that meant Britain's greatest hero had come home.

But more than 200 years later mobile phone bosses have had their plans turned down for planting a mast of a very different kind in the former garden of Lord Nelson's lover.

Campaigners breathed a sigh of relief when planners rejected O2's bid for a 50ft tower next to Town Quay House, Fareham, where Nelson and Lady Hamilton are rumoured to have met up for romantic encounters.

Councillors decided the tower would have a 'detrimental effect' on the Grade II listed building in Gosport Road, which dates from 1720, with porch columns made of masts from ancient ships.

Eighteen neighbours objected to the mast, including Paul Holland, who has spent tens of thousands of pounds restoring the building.

He said: 'We're delighted. You always expect the mobile phone operators to exercise their clout and get their way.

'I'm sure they'll be back and we'll do battle again, but they should really look at finding somewhere more appropriate.

Cllr Roger Price said: 'We must make sure all our listed buildings are cared for and looked after and not do anything as an authority that doesn't let that happen.'

O2 has said it will appeal against the decision and was determined to install the pole.

MOBILE PHONE MAST GOING UP AT PUB

NEIGHBOURS have given a mixed response to plans for a 12.5 metre mobile phone mast at the Golden Eagle pub in Haywards Heath.

The proposed G2 mast by telecommunications company O2 does not require planning permission because it is covered under permitted development at the site in America Lane.

Planners expect the mast, which is to be disguised as a flag pole, to be built in the next four to five months.

Residents have greeted the plans with a mixture of fear for the health implications on the local area and tolerance. Deputy Manager of Martin's in America Lane, Jo Bowen, said she was not happy about the impact the mast may have on children.

She said: "I would be a hypocrite to say I was concerned about the health effects on me because I have a mobile phone but it's an estate full of children and radiation is a concern.

"In this area there are a lot of young children hanging around down at the green and at the football club."

Manager of Sawyers Health Club Julian Drage was surprised neighbours had not been notified in advance. He said: "We were a little surprised we weren't notified the mast was going up in the general area. We would have liked to have been informed so we could have considered the possible health implications on our customers."

O2 have said the new G2 mast is necessary to improve general network coverage and to cater for a predicted growth in population in the area over the next few years.

A Boston road resident, who did not wish to be named, supported the move. She said: "I've got no problems. Everyone uses mobile phones. There's no written evidence that it causes cancer. I'm happy to live within close proximity to it as long as it's disguised."

http://www.buergerwelle.de/body_science.html

Spokesperson for O2 James Stevenson said he expected there to be more communication with residents over the next few weeks.

He said: "We've got permission but we're going to talk to the residents before we put it up.

"We're going to tell them what we're proposing and put it forward to them. We want to explain ourselves a bit better than we have of late. We've written to some people and we will talk to them. If they want, we will have an all day session. It may be somebody will suggest a better location."
