Looking for a nice quiet place to get away and unwind? The Village of New Denver in eastern British Columbia wants to make an unusual sales pitch:
Come, stay, and never hear the ring of a cell phone.
New Denver's citizens voted against the introduction of mobile phone service in a referendum in January. The vote was a close one -- 117 to 110 -- but the village council said before the referendum that it would live by the result. And it wants Telus to do the same.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Parents in Rutherford County are concerned about the proposed construction of a cell phone tower near a playground and school.
The local planning commission has already approved the tower that would be constructed directly behind Wilson Elementary in Rutherford County and next to the playground.
Channel 4 talked with parents about their concerns of electromagnetic radiation emitting from the proposed 250-foot tower.
While cell phone service is currently spotty in this area, parents at the school said its not worth building a tower and risking their kids health and decreasing property values.
The residents of Dereel, south of Ballarat, do not want their internet services upgraded because they are concerned about the electromagnetic radiation that will be generated.
Two petitions containing almost 200 signatures has been presented to the Golden Plains Shire about a broadband antenna being installed at the Dereel Hall and Community Centre.
For a laundry list of reasons — most notably their children’s health — residents are rallying to oppose construction of a 250-foot cellular tower at an elementary school in northern Rutherford County.
Kenneth Allen, a four-year resident of the Wilson Ridge neighborhood, said the proposal to build a cell tower next to the playground at Wilson Elementary on Cut Off Road doesn’t sit well with the community.
The health effects of exposing children to low levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted by towers are heavily disputed, but there’s enough evidence to cause concern for Allen, who circulated a petition challenging the tower around the neighborhood, which he says everyone readily signed.
No responses or "action" on the part of two presidents!!!! McDonalds and "Disney phones" were huge worries in 1999.
As I often mention, if studies are done that focus only on "hours of cell phone usage" and do not address whether or not the cell phones are also being taken to bed -- kept on vibrate mode for easy texting, etc. - kept on nightstands and/or headboards at night, carried in clothing, the studies will be "flawed" and countless numbers of children and persons of all ages will continue to suffer all sorts of problems with their central nervous systems and more.
I just heard a bit of an Obama campaign speech. He used the word "solutions" but does anyone really have what it takes to start turning things around? The Clintons didn't care - I also wrote to Hillary Clinton re the Long Island breast cancer problems. No response from her either. I will try seeking help from a local Obama campaign office soon.
"Insanity prevails!!!" If we don't seriously address the issues of "all aspects of close exposures," we are unlikely to get very far with limitations re the more distant exposures. "Spinning and spinning and spinning" while countless numbers of persons cotinue to report autism-like symptoms, Alzheimers at younger and younger ages.......... We are doing what we can considering the barriers the media has in place but is it "too little, too late?" For countless persons, the answer is "YES.....!!!!"
