Chief expresses concern about increases in Telecommunication Masts

Nana Kwaku Bio, Chief of Essienimpong in the Ejisu Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region, has expressed concern about the increasing rate at which telecommunication mast were being erected across the country.

He was of the opinion that these masts had some health risk pose by electromagnetic radiation, hence the need to check its spread.

Nana Kwaku Bio expressed the concern in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Essienimpong on Friday.

He explained that telecommunication masts, which were supposed to be far from human settlement were now been built in the mist of human settlement and this was posing serious health threat to those who stayed closed to the masts.

Another plan for a mobile phone mast

PROPOSALS have been put forward for another mobile phone mast in Seaford.

Vodafone wants to put up a 10-metre telegraph pole at the junction of Sutton Avenue and Eastbourne Road and has applied to Lewes District Council for permission.

The site is only a short distance from where Vodafone wanted to put a similar mast on the Sutton Corner junction but abandoned it after residents' protests. The controversial plans also come as a similar application by the mobile phone giant in another part of the town was recently objected to by Seaford Town Council.

Mast may go ahead

A mobile phone giant may not need permission to site a 12-metre mast near homes and two schools in Shrewsbury, a public meeting in Frankwell has heard.

Protesters successfully stopped O2 erecting a 12.5 metre antenna near their homes in Copthorne.
