More than 8 million Americans seriously consider suicide each year, according to a new government study. About 32,000 suicides occur in the United States each year, but a new study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration indicates that many more give the idea serious thought. The new SAMHSA report is based on a survey of 46,190 people aged 18 and older. In the past, the question about suicide had only been asked of people who reported major depression but in 2008 it was added to all questionnaires. Other findings: * People 18 to 25 years old were far more likely to have seriously considered suicide in the previous year (6.7 percent) than those 26 to 49 (3.9 percent). * Just 2.3 percent seriously considered suicide among those 50 or older. * Among people with a substance abuse disorder, 11 percent had considered suicide, compared to 3 percent for people without such disorders..

Afghanistan: Where Empires Go to Die

Dahr Jamail, Truthout: "On September 7 the Swedish aid agency Swedish Committee for Afghanistan reported that the previous week US soldiers raided one of its hospitals. According to the director of the aid agency, Anders Fange, troops stormed through both the men's and women's wards, where they frantically searched for wounded Taliban fighters. Soldiers demanded that hospital administrators inform the military of any incoming patients who might be insurgents, after which the military would then decide if said patients would be admitted or not. Fange called the incident 'not only a clear violation of globally recognized humanitarian principles about the sanctity of health facilities and staff in areas of conflict, but also a clear breach of the civil-military agreement' between nongovernmental organizations and international forces. Fange said that US troops broke down doors and tied up visitors and hospital staff."

Ein Vorschlag zur Lösung des Problems

Zur Zeit steht wieder das große Problem an, wie bzw. wo der Atom-Müll sicher gelagert werden kann. Die Politiker sind dem Problem nicht gewachsen. Stattdessen lassen sie mit einem gigantischen Aufwand an Polizei gegen den Willen der Bevölkerung eine Fuhre nach der anderen radioaktiven Müll in die Bergwerke Asse und Gorleben transportieren und versuchen dem Volk einzureden,
erstens Atomenergie sei notwendig und zweitens der Atom-Müll sei in den Bergwerken Asse und Gorleben sicher gelagert. Aber das sind fragwürdige Aussagen.

Der Sender Phönix brachte am 9.9.09 den Film „Strahlender Sumpf“ von Oliver Deuker und Malin Ihlau. Es ging um das Atomlager Asse, ein alter Salzstock in der Nähe von Wolfenbüttel in Niedersachsen. Es ist die gefährlichste Deponie Deutschlands. 126.000 Tonnen strahlender Müll lagern dort. Einige der Eisenfässer sind bereits geborsten. Täglich fließen 12.000 Liter Wasser in das Salzbergwerk, das dadurch vom Einsturz bedroht ist.

„Atom-Müll hätte hier niemals eingelagert werden dürfen“, sagt Wolfram König, Präsident des Bundesamtes für Strahlenschutz heute, „keiner kann sagen, ob nicht morgen oder übermorgen unaufhaltsame Wassermengen zutreten. Dann können ganze Pfeiler und Kammerdecken zusammenbrechen.“ Und der Atom-Müll würde sich mit dem Grundwasser vermischen.

Neue Gutachten versuchen zu beruhigen: die bergmännische Stabilität des Grubengebäudes sei bis 2020 gegeben. Eine Expertengruppe prüft derzeit verschiedene Optionen, wie die Asse saniert werden kann. Andere Wissenschaftler raten davon ab. Für sie ist die Asse eine tickende Zeitbombe.

Die Atom-Müll-Lager Asse und Gorleben sind Ausdruck von politischem Fehlverhalten. Seit 40 Jahren haben unsere Politiker gegen den erkennbaren Volkswillen zugunsten mächtiger Minderheiten gehandelt. Nicht nur die damalige Regierung Kohl, sondern auch alle Nachfolge-Regierungen (einschließlich der Oppositionsparteien, soweit sie untätig geblieben sind) sind für diese Umweltbedrohung verantwortlich zu machen. Sie sind dem Vorwurf des Volksverrates ausgesetzt.

Die Lagerung des Atom-Mülls in Asse und Gorleben ist keine Lösung. Das Problem wird auch nicht dadurch gelöst, daß man diese Bergwerke zubetoniert oder andere Bergwerke für eine Endlagerung in Betracht zieht.

Aber wohin mit dem gefährlichen Zeug ?

Als Heimatforscher und Kosmologe habe ich in meinem Buch "Die Sonne - Stern und Ursprung des Lebens" 1996 einen Vorschlag veröffentlicht, der dieses schwierige Problem sicher lösen kann:
ich habe mich auch mit Tiefsee-Forschung befaßt und mit den Versuchen, die tiefsten Stellen der Ozeane zu ertauchen. Als der Schweizer Forscher Jaques Piccard plante, im Pazifischen Ozean auf den Grund des "Marianen-Grabens" in fast 11 km Tiefe zu tauchen, befürchtete man, daß man dort den ganzen Müll der Menschheit vorfinden würde. Denn man wußte, daß auf den Meeresgründen riesige Sandströme mit Geschwindigkeiten von bis zu 60 km pro Stunde in die tiefsten Stellen der Ozeane strömen und alles mit sich reißen, was ihnen im Weg liegt: untergegangene Schiffe, Kanonen, Autos, Fahrräder und vieles andere. Es ist auch logisch, daß der Müll der Menschheit, soweit er von diesen Sandströmungen ergriffen wird, durch die Schwerkraft der Erde dorthin und danach in das Erdinnere gelangt.

Als nun am 26.1.1960 Jaques Piccard mit dem Amerikaner Leutnant Don Walsh mit dem Tauchboot "Trieste" auf dem Grund des Marianengrabens in fast 11 Kilometern Tiefe ankamen, sahen sie im Licht ihrer Scheinwerfer auf schneeweißen Sand. Statt Müll und Gerümpel sahen sie eine absolut saubere Meereslandschaft. Denn alles, was dort an die tiefsten Stellen der Ozeane gelangt, wird sofort in den, in das Erdinnere fließenden Strom der Stoffe gebracht. Unsere „Mutter Erde“ reinigt auf diese Weise sich selbst.

Während die durchschnittliche Tiefe der Ozeane ca. 4,5 Kilometer beträgt, sind diese Tiefseegräben ("Rinnen") deutlich tiefer: der Atacamagraben 8,1 km, Boningraben 10,6 km, Japangraben 9,8 km, Kermadecgraben 10,0 km, Kurilengraben 10,5 km, Marianengraben 10,9 km, Philippinengraben 10,5 km. Die meisten Gräben befinden sich im Pazifischen Ozean. Aber auch der Atlantik hat solche Öffnungen in das Erdinnere: Kaimangraben 8 km, Puerto-Rico-Graben 9 km, Romancherinne 8 km......."
