The houses would be saturated with high power microwaves

Gary

We appealed it because it is was going to be installed trackside. The track is only a gardens length to the one side of Wyvern Close and it was my opinion that these houses would be saturated with high power microwaves. One of our neighbours from that side of the road has just had a baby and her nursery would have been only about 20m from this mast. The poor kid would have been sleeping in high powered microwaves.

Our MP John Penrose is already concerned about Masts so you can imagine his surprise when we let him know that four were being erected in Weston and they don't need planning. He was quick on the case and worked well with our councillor (they are both tory!) and together with a persistent local newspaper reporter managed to get Network Rail's ear. Mr Penrose campaigned Network Rail and they agreed to consult with our planners who told them it was irresponsible to mount it so close to dwellings. The mast has now been moved about 500m further down the track in a coach park. We will of course still have an increase in Microwaves but as the most is 500m away I feel more comfortable about the power level.

http://umweltinstitut.org/pressemitteilungen/2007/akw-krummel-475.html

http://umweltinstitut.org/pressemitteilungen/2007/11_07_2007-475.html

Globalism

The Free Liberal
by US Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX)

07/20/07

The recent defeat of the amnesty bill in the Senate came after outraged Americans made it clear to the political elite that they would not tolerate this legislation, which would further erode our national sovereignty. Similarly, polls increasingly show the unpopularity of the Iraq war, as well as of the Congress that seems incapable of ending it. Because some people who vocally oppose amnesty are supportive of the war, the ideological connection between support of the war and amnesty is often masked. If there is a single word explaining the reasons why we continue to fight unpopular wars and see legislation like the amnesty bill nearly become law, that word is ‘globalism’...

Framing the Russians

AntiWar.Com
by Justin Raimondo

07/20/07

The media has been rife with declarations that the cold war is back, and the spy-jinks we’re being told about — the Brits apparently planted a recording device inside a rock, and positioned it on a Russian street to unknown purposes — are like something out of a John Le Carre novel. Le Carre, you’ll remember, writes of multi-layered conspiracies, like those Russian wooden dolls that contain several smaller dolls within, and this model is pretty much what we’re looking at when it comes to the Litvinenko affair. The Russians, for their part, have their own convoluted tale to tell, with Lugovoi accusing the Brits of running an extensive spy network within Russia, and at least one other person coming forward to confirm that, yes, they were recruited by the Brits to spy on the Motherland. What’s important to realize, however, is that, whatever the credibility or motives behind these charges and counter-charges, the very real geo-political consequences of this row are becoming increasingly serious — and dangerous...

How empires end

WorldNetDaily
by Pat Buchanan

07/20/07

Responding to the call of Pope Urban II at Claremont in 1095, the Christian knights of the First Crusade set out for the Holy Land. In 1099, Jerusalem was captured. As their port in Palestine, the Crusaders settled on Acre on the Mediterranean. There they built the great castle that was overrun by Saladin in 1187, but retaken by Richard the Lion-Hearted in 1191. Acre became the capital of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the stronghold of the Crusader state, which fell to the Mameluks in a bloody siege in 1291. The Christians left behind were massacred. The ruins of Acre are now a tourist attraction. Any who have visited this last outpost of Christendom in the Holy Land before Gen. Allenby marched into Jerusalem in 1917 cannot — on reading of the massive U.S. embassy rising in Baghdad — but think of Acre...

Losing talent for no good reason

If there has ever been a decisive lesson to be learned about making a nation strong, it is that lesson of America … welcome the immigrants and give them the opportunity to succeed. No matter where they come from … no matter how poor, no matter how uneducated, no matter how alien to our way of life … they have come here and improved our society. It’s a lesson we’ve almost lost. For a nation built by immigrants to turn around and become restrictive against future immigrants is an insult to our own ancestors. It is simply un-American. Blacks imprisoned at 5x rate of whites

Arizona Republic

Blacks in the United States are imprisoned at more than five times the rate of Anglos, and Hispanics are locked up at nearly double the Anglo rate, according to a study released Wednesday by a criminal justice policy group. The report by the Sentencing Project, a Washington-based think tank, found that states in the Midwest and Northeast have the greatest Black-to-Anglo disparity in incarceration. Iowa had the widest disparity in the nation, imprisoning Blacks at more than 13 times the rate of Anglos. Such figures ‘reflect a failure of social and economic interventions to address crime effectively,’ as well as racial bias in the justice system, said Marc Mauer, the Sentencing Project’s executive director...

Government Arrogance Is Out Of Control!

The arrogance of this White House is unprecedented. Richard Nixon was a bully, but at least when he was caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar, he had the decency and character to resign. However, we must admit that this White House does not have a monopoly on arrogance. It has spread like a cancer throughout the federal government and has even infected many in state and local government. If you doubt that, just ask any plumber, electrician, or general contractor what it's like to deal with their local code enforcement, planning and zoning, or licensing and permitting bureaucrats.......

Truthout's Jason Leopold and Matt Renner report that a US District Court judge has dismissed the civil lawsuit made by CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson and her husband, Joseph Wilson, against Vice President Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and other senior officials in the Bush administration. The ruling agrees with the White House's assertion of executive privilege on a wide-range of controversial legal challenges by third parties.

Habeas Corpus: A defense against the dark arts

Common Dreams
by Caroline Arnold

07/18/07

This week our Senate is debating the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act of 2007, designed to restore habeas corpus rights denied by the Military Commissions Act of 2006 to some 12 million legal residents of the U.S. …. Too many Americans today are deeply insecure in their understanding of fundamental systems that affect their lives …. they’re not quite sure how we should fight terrorism, and they’re hazy about habeas corpus. But they experience real fear when they read about people being detained without knowing the charges against them. They wonder ‘What if I got arrested, but didn’t know what for?’ ‘What if my son was detained and I couldn’t find out what he had done or where he was?’ Then they wonder further: ‘How do I know that I won’t be next?’ ‘What should I do or not do to make sure someone doesn’t accuse me and have me arrested?’ We begin to see that the cancellation of habeas corpus was an artful move to make citizens more insecure, more distrustful of one another, and more fearful...

Spy surge

Slate
by Fred Kaplan

07/18/07

A year and a half ago, passionate arguments broke out over reports about the National Security Agency’s ‘data-mining’ technologies. A couple of years earlier, the Pentagon attempted to fund a still-more intrusive program called the ‘Total Information Awareness’ network. (The latter effort failed, but the concept was almost certainly re-routed to the NSA or elsewhere.) Concerns were raised about privacy rights, the abuse of power, and the worth of such networks to begin with. Judging from the NIE (not just from these key passages but from its general assessment of a ‘persistent and evolving terrorist threat’), the debate over these vast surveillance systems will soon be renewed...

Cooking the intelligence, again

Salon
by Sidney Blumenthal

07/19/07

One of the more memorable and revealing statements explaining the nature of the Bush administration buildup to the invasion of Iraq was offered in September 2002 by then White House chief of staff Andrew Card. ‘From a marketing point of view,’ he said, ‘you don’t introduce new products in August.’ Five years later, a period longer than the Civil War and World War II, the administration is preparing to present its case for continuing the surge in Iraq. But rather than waiting for September, when Gen. David Petraeus is scheduled to deliver his report, the administration has moved up the marketing to July. The familiar props are rolled out, like the well-worn and peeling painted backdrop for a production of a traveling Victorian theatrical troupe, and members of the audience are expected to watch with rapt fascination, as though they had never seen this show before. The negative response to the preview does not alter the same old script...

'Terror' is, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. When 'we' slaughter hundreds, thousands of people, it is described as 'collateral damage', or a 'regrettable incident' or, 'we didn't intend to kill innocent civilians', no, they just became victims of an act of terror, but one executed by the state and thus it can never be regarded as an act of terror in the corporate media.
