In this interview from April 15th, 1994, Dick Cheney reveals the reasons why invading Baghdad and toppling Saddam Hussein wouldn't be a great idea. He also stipulates that "not very many" American soldiers' lives were worth losing to take out Saddam during the Gulf War.

CHENEY KNEW IRAQ WOULD BE AN DISASTER WHEN HE LIED US INTO IT
Over the weekend a video from 1994 surfaced on YouTube where Cheney explained the reason they did not occupy Iraq in the first Gulf War was they knew it would be a total quagmire. You will find a link to this video in the arguments section of this action page.

This proves he knew ten years before he lied us into this war that,
1) we would end up absolutely alone in the occupation, that no countries in the region would join us, 2) it would lead to the certain break up of Iraq into a sectarian mess and a military quagmire, and 3) that taking out Saddam was NOT worth sacrificing American lives.
How often recently have you heard politicians try to excuse their Iraq war votes by saying "If I knew then what I know now." We knew ALL these things up front when we spoke out to protest the invasion in the first place. Any sane student or observer of the Middle East who was even remotely paying attention knew these things. But most disgracefully, Cheney himself knew these things, when he premeditatedly lied America into this disaster.
But he did it anyway, to line the pockets of his war profiteer cronies, to try to steal Iraq's oil in a vain, arrogant misadventure that has already cost us our military readiness, upwards of 4,000 American lives, tens of thousands of our citizens crippled for life, and an estimated death toll of now a million Iraqis, while the so-called "surge", a despicable euphemism for a further escalation, digs the hole only deeper.
And yet, just this last week, Cheney AGAIN was pushing for military strikes on Iran. And that story is also linked from the action page for you to speak out on whether the Vice President should be impeached.

Why a poll? Because outside of a couple of clear eyed visionaries like Dennis Kucinich there is NO leadership in Congress. None. Zero. The rest of them pay attention ONLY to polls. Further evidence of this was demonstrated just before they all flew off on vacation when they waved through a wholly unjustified and gratuitous gutting of the FISA law with hardly a whimper. Well . . . they got hundreds of thousands of emails of total disgust overnight on that and apparently they are just now starting to smell the coffee.
But what it's going to take to REALLY wake them up is for ALL of us to speak out now on impeachment, the one and only remedy that can save our country from ending up as Dick Cheney's personal fiefdom. Only by speaking out now and standing up for the Constitution can the system of government our founders created be preserved.
If they nuke Iran, as they have suggested they might do, all bets are off. They have already issued secret presidential directives to declare martial law, so classified even our members of Congress with top security clearances are forbidden to see them. Do not assume there will even BE a next election under such circumstances. Remember when Rudy Giuliani, America's grandstander, suggested in the aftermath of 9/11 that his own term should be extended. They are seizing the power to do something exactly like that.
Did you hear this last week when Lt. General Douglas Lute, the war "czar", stated that a return of the draft has always been "on the table". The draft is on the table and impeachment supposedly is not??? What kind of cowardly capitulation to tyranny is that?
It's up to us, folks. Congress is NOT going to do it without being pushed. We have to speak out in numbers like never before. WE have to demonstrate leadership they lack, each of us in our own perhaps small way, by submitting the action page to send your vote on Impeachment of Cheney and your personal message to Congress, by engaging our friends and neighbors in a discussion of the issues.

To our fellow senators and congressmen, the time has come that punitive action must be initiated immediately against this administration in Washington.
What more is it going to take, before the democrats and all clear thinking Americans will stand up and say, enough?
This president has misled this nation for the last 6 years. We have now lost over 3600 of our young American lives, untold thousands are wounded and laid up for life to many, yet and still we have these congressmen with limited vision, to stand-by whatever Bush says or does.
It seems that Bush can always find just the right person with limited vision, that will not dare look beyond whatever he does or says.
We know that Bush, and many of those that follow him, all claim to be Christians. But my fellow citizens, we should be knowing something about what The Word of God does say.
Bush has even said, he was inspired of God to invade Iraq. Can anyone think of any reason that God would require the deaths and destruction of so many, and the devastation of foreign lands, by our own military, to the tune of billions from our treasury, for seemingly no reason whatsoever?
God says I John 4:1, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits; whether they are of God,: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."
ARE WE FOLLOWING A FALSE PROPHET?
Even back in old testament days, God was warning about the self-made false prophets.
Jeremiah 23:16, "Thus saith The Lord of hosts; Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of God."
God further says Proverbs 16:7, "When a man's ways please The Lord, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him."
So why Mr. Bush, are we bogged down in Iraq? You started this war, and if God had been in it, it would not have happened.
The fruit of the righteous----
You Mr President & Cheney came into office claiming to be going to restore decency and honesty to the office of the presidency. But you have done everything but that, and for that you will have to answer to God. You went up to PA., to campaign for that adultery Don Sherwood.
What good things can you say about a person like that? Your whole administration is rife with crooks it seems.
Proverbs 11:30, "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise."
How many souls have you tried to win over for The Lord, rather than shipping them off to die?
FEAR, FEAR:
You all have tried to instill fear on top of fear under the guise that only you all can protect this country.
God says Psalms 127:1, "Except The Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it; except The Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."
Galatians 6:7, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
If we do not want the sins of Bush and Cheney upon us, we'd better start proving to God Almighty, that we will go to the limit to get them out.
And to my fellow democrats, and all clear thinking people of this great country of ours, it would be better to stand up to them now, strive to get them out, even if it would mean you will lose next year, you stand proudly, for you will have done The Will of God.
And to the liberal soul;
Proverbs 11:25, "The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth shall be watered also himself."
This wanton unrestrained spending and deaths cannot continue, I don't think God will allow it for much longer.
Democrats unite and stand up, go out into the field and target people like this McConnell, Boehner, Blunt, even this Amy Holmes, and others the mouth pieces for people like Bush and them.
The neos have proven, they are willing to follow Bush on over the cliff, and take even their own families with them. Matthew 15:14, "Let them alone; they be blind leaders of the blind; And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."
And remember all, God has said, "Not one jot or one tittle of His word shall fail."
